NAvigation and MP3 at the same time?

I want to use my android phone while traveling on my motorcycle. Specifically I want to use the navigation for obvious reasons, but I also want to listen to music. The question is, on an EVO or Hero phone, or any other Android phone, can I view the navigation/moving maps while listening to music, and have the GPS interrupt, pause , or mute the music to give directions and then go back to playing music?
I have a device now that mixes my MP3/GPS but I have too many things to carry on the bike!

I am gonna test it out for you.

On TeleNav (Sprint Navigation), this did work (at least on BlackBerry, it did). You could play music, and it would pause when voice instructions were necessary, and then go back to music.

Excellent news. Since I don't have my phone yet, this was really the only thing holding me back!

When navigating while playing music with Pandora, Google Maps Navigation will mute the media volume during its audible directions. I know that's not exactly what you asked for, but it should be a good indicator.

My actual test matched UncleMike's findings. Navigation interrupted music, and the music continued after the voice instructions were given.

Yep, CoPilot also does the sat nav over the music.

Only down side is if you wish to interact with the music (such as pause it) you have to switch over to the music player first. But I guess that will be the same for any device doing the multitasking.

I tried listening to music while using CoPilot.. it worked flawlessly! I also did the same with Navigon and iGo MyWay.. once again.. flawless. I am using HTCClay's SuperBadCM5 v1.5.1 with a host of mods too many to mention here.

sprint nav just talks over the music which i like. Put the volume on very loud in the settings for sprint nav to make sure it is louder than the music.
