Navigation app "Waiting for Location"?

I have a Nexus S with 4.1.2. I turned off my GPS hoping that it would decrease everyday lag, but then I decided to turn it on again and now the GPS app won't work. It says "Waiting on Location" for 10-15sec, then just closes itself out and returns to the home screen without an prompt such as a force close message. What could this be? How do I fix this?

Edit [I just clicked on my maps, it cannot find my location says well. It says "Waiting for location" however, it says "Location Set by GPS" when I pull down my notification bar. Strange.

Was the Navigation app able to work on GPS only i do not have data connection and it ask for one. I would like for it to work without the data connection.

For analysing the phone's GPS reception use a app like 'GPS Status'.
The app also let you clear and reload the aGPS data.

You know that idea could work assuming every stop has wifi but before a old version you had functions on the maps to see direction and such now it says no data plan. I bought the devise for the GPS along with map with satelitte which is very similar to Garmin and such but yes the data plan has nice feature but I am not using any and been getting by with wifi but no wfif in the car. how could you get the developer to add this feature to work on wifi liake the garmin them?

@drkang: I had the same problem with my Droid Razr Maxx. I made sure the Maps application was up to date, tried factory reset and nothing worked.

This is what I did to resolve, might not work for you but it's worth a shot:
Open System Settings > Locations services and make sure Google location services IS Enabled. Enable the Standalone GPS services and then test out the built in navigation app. It opens for me without waiting a minute or two before it finds the location.

I am facing the exact same problem on my Nexus S. It use to work and suddenly Navigation cant find GPS. I have noticed it in last couple of days. I am on Android 4.1.2 . Is it a new JB update issue?

Took me quite some time to figure this one out, thought I should post it here in case anyone else has a similar problem.

When I updated to Android 4.1.2, I noticed that my Google Navigation stopped working. It would simply sit there endlessly "Waiting for location..." Fortunately, there's a simple fix:

1. Go to "Settings > Accounts > Google > Location Settings".
2. Flip the switch to "On" (I found this was off in my case).
3. Try Google Navigation again, it should work fine.

I'm not sure why Google decided to break up the location settings into two different places like this, but it's a bit silly IMO as it's definitely going to catch some people out.

Found this solution on XDA, cant post link, but this works.

You are a lifesaver. I never would have looked for this. Thanks.

Thank you!!! I tried searching on XDA and I couldn't find this solution, so Google Search and here I am. Apparently this was turned off for me and I don't know when or why except that it happened 2 days ago since I could not get Navigation to work yesterday or today. Who would have thought Google has a different setting to control GPS just for their own apps.

I had something similar to my phone. I have the Droid Razr Maxx (received it Oct. 29). When I would try to use anything with the GPS, it would say "waiting on location." It seemed like it sort of knew where I was because it would show the general area of my location. I made sure that I had location services on. I know this sounds stupid but I had to turn the phone off then back on. (I was having other issues with the phone.) Once I turned it off and back on, the gps started working.
Anyway, give it a try. I was ready to go to the Verizon store for help!

For anyone who's having trouble with the voice in navigation, just hit the volume 'up' while the voice is speaking. Some have also described that Victoria in SVOX works, but the volume increase worked for me.
