Help Navigation Asks "Cancel or Continue" When Screen Awakens

I didn't know how to best word the title of this post. And therefore, I haven't found any answers anywhere else. Here's the issue:

While navigating using the Google Maps navigation feature, I like to choose the "dim screen between turns" option to save battery. The problem is that when a turn is approaching and the screen awakens from being dimmed, a requester comes up that wants to know if I want to continue, or quit navigating. Of course I want to continue. When this occurs, all I have to do is touch "cancel", and the navigation continues... simple enough. But that's a huge problem... I don't like to have to momentarily take my eyes of the road to touch "cancel" in the midst of unfamiliar territory with turns fast approaching! Yesterday I was driving through the Chicago area with cars all around me doing 80 or better... in the dark, and in the rain, having the screen awaken and requiring me to touch "cancel".

For those who wonder why I don't simply plug in a charger and keep the screen on... I don't see the need when I know I'll only be using the navigation for about an hour or so. This battery is a beast. It uses very little battery when navigating for an hour or so (maybe even a lot longer). Of course if I knew I'd be in unfamiliar territory requiring extensive use of the navigation, I would plug it in. I just feel that when I request "dim screen between turns", that the feature should work properly, and not put my life in danger!

Phone specifics: Verizon LG G2. VS980. Android 4.2.2. Maps version 7.7.0.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know any fixes, or settings that would eliminate this problem?

Thanks!

Steve
