Help ndroid unknown sources box is password protected

Mandroidr

Lurker
hello
I have an android box H1 media player HUMAX.
it won't let me to install any 3rd party applications other than those came with the unit.

I tried putting some apk files of on the USB and copied it on my H1 Humax but when trying to install them it wants me to enable unknown sources which is password protected when i try to click on it.

The above issue I am facing it recently as before I tried to install the 3rd party apps on the same box and by checking the unkown sources box it installed easily (just as in android mobiles) and the apps used to work,

but now i am not able to install it because of the password protected message.

Can anybody help me with this issue.

Thank you...

Have you installed any app-locking or security app? I know nothing about Android TV boxes, so it's possible it's a built in feature of that device, but in my experience it needs an app to do something like that.

You say it use to work. At which point did it stop working? Try uninstalling apps one by one that you have installed to see if any of them have been naughty.

More than likely it could well have been a firmware update that Humax pushed through and locked that feature.

I would recommend performing a factory reset incase it is just a software glitch or rouge app. You might want to check when the device was last updated, if it was recently then that may explain the issue.

No such security lock stuff is installed. I restored to factory settings many times still the same issue. Its not a built in feature as before it used to work correctly. I have other devices also same model n brand they are working perfectly. Its just issue with this particular device.

Tried factory reset many times and still the same issue. I have a similar box which is running perfectly and supports 3rd party apps. Its just the issue with this particular box which i am facing. May be ill try installing the 3rd party app without upgrading the device.

Sounds like it may have been a security update to the firmware. Unless you can revert, I think your stuck.

But how come other devices (same model and brand) i have, are running and supporting 3rd party apps. But only this one facing the issue. If firmware upgrade is going on then i guess it should be for all the devices. There is nothing as such. :(

Personally I never allow automatic firmware updates - I always set my devices to just notify me, so always know whether there has been one. But you can test this by going into Settings > About, looking at the software information and checking the build numbers. If they are all the same we can rule that out, whereas if this one is different then it's a possibility.

Factory reset doesn't undo system updates, so in principle this could be the difference.

Hello,

I have the same device ( Humax H1 ) and i used to install 3rd party APKs until the last software upgrade pushed from provider. the same case with 3 of my friends.

And when you try to tick the allow unknown sources, a pop-up massage titled with "Password" appears, and it's body is empty.

Anyway, it is all locked by Humax 100%, but the interested thing is that i was able to root the device and take root privileges using ADB for sure, and able to force install 3rd party APKs, some of them fails to work for unknown reason, and some works fine.

I am a little bit far of unlocking the device completely, once done, will share this for sure ;)
