NE2 Fails big time.

I just called VZ to find out what the discount is for NE2 on my account. I have a family share premium with 5 lines, and one of the lines is eligible as of two months ago... But I don't get any additional discount. The cost of the phone, out the door, will be $299 on Friday. :( I kept seeing how everyone was going to get the phone for less than $100, and I thought "With the size of the plan I have and what I'm spending monthly, I should have that too."

And that my friend is the reason we left verizon! We only have a plan with two lines, but they were two smart phones, was around 150/month, and they would never budge with anything like new phones and cost. blah!

Been with sprint for a couple months, and will NEVER go back to VZW EVER! Was nervous but figured we could cancel and go back anytime within 30 days. Well the coverage in upstate/northern NY is just as good of better than verizon! Also was just as good all throughout western Mass. I get coverage everywhere I did with Verizon plus coverage where I didnt, so I have no complaints.

Yeah they have great coverage, but at what cost? sprint is around $50 per month cheaper plus the coverage in this area is just as good/better. customer service has aslo been excellent as well, actually following up with a call back to make sure everything was taken care of....sorry for the rant!

It's been that way for a long time. The only person that gets the NE2 discount is the main line every other line does not get one.
 
NE2 is very specifically for lines spending over a certain amount a month on their plan. Being a secondary line, 9.99 a month is obviously not going to meet this threshold. However if your primary line is eligible to upgrade with the NE2 discount, you can switch the upgrade/NE2 to your secondary line if you choose to do so (called an alternate upgrade).

As for the Sprint argument, I can't speak for them, but I do know that their phone prices are generally higher than Verizon's anyway, so even if they do give you an additional amount off, you're likely to come out at about the same price anyway. I am also fairly sure there NE2 (or equivalent, if they even have one) is similar to Verizon's. This is no reason to switch carriers, in my opinion, but I guess I'm a bit biased.

Good luck trading your phone.. I had sprint for 8 years.. Purchased a Razr to replace my current phone, paid FULL PRICE because i didn't want to be in a contract. Called a year or so later and they said that my "term" restarted when i added the razr, not allowing me to get a diff. phone at a discount.. thanks.. haha..
 
Like those before me said... the $9.99 lines don't get the NE2 discount, been that way for as long as I can remember. But then again, my last carrier made me feel like they were being so extra generous because they let me upgrade my primary of 5 lines for the regular 2 year pricing, so I'm GLAD to be with VZW so I can get the additional discount on at least the primary line... and great service to boot.

One way to get the NE2 is to have all lines on a single plan... so if you put all lines on the $59.99 Select plan for 450 min and unlimited texting... if we're talking 5 lines like me, that comes to $299.95/mo, then once every other year I can save $50 on new phones... er, well, no thanks. I'll keep my 1400 min family share plan with friends and family for a total of $110 for primary and $9.99 x 4 for $149.96... I think I'm ok with paying "full" 2 year pricing for all my secondary lines :rolleyes:
 
To the OP, i'd seriously call them back and find out why they aren't offering your NE2.. I called a while ago, because i thought i was going to get $100 off for NE2.. I had the basic basic 700 min family plan that's 59.99 (i think)

According to NE2 your plan (excluding any options, additional lines) had to be greater than 79.99.. I explained to the customer service agent that my primary line was a smartphone, and Verzion demanded that i have a data plan which i paid $45 a month for the last 24 months.. (sidebar, i did notice that they had a $30 plan a few months ago and switched to it)

So, 59.99+45.00=94.99 per month, and i had NO OPTION but to pay that amount.. I told her "Look, if the idea is you want me spend at least 79.99 a month, you've succeeded, does it really matter if it's because i paid for a high minute plan, vs an extremely overpriced data plan ?"

Long story short, she gave me my NE2 at $50, and applied a $50 credit to my acct..

VZ will bend over backwards to keep you in a contract, use it to your advantage

That the same issue my friend left them. The moments he added a new phone his term restarted and could no get another one at discount price.
 
we have four line at one piont had 5...1 is a premuim line, 1is smart phone and 2 are basic but we all we get the the NE2 and my i used my husbands annual upgrade and am payin 199 for the phone plus taxe and bs of course
 
When I look online it says both of my secondary lines are eligable for the NE2 on 12/19/09 and my dad upgraded his primary a couple months ago.

Do any other companies offer any additional discounts such as NE2 credits that go towards the purchase of a new handset...at all? On top of the 2 year pricing? Do they?
Just wondering? And then, do they offer that on a line that has a 9.99 access fee? If so, you should port over to them yesterday lol.
Oh, and when you make a call on their phones, do they actually get service?
 
You guys are partially wrong. The NE2 credit applies to the primary line, or any line, or any combination of lines, but you get the one $50 credit for the whole family plan. The value in NE2 is that you're eligible for the same prices that new customers get as long as you re-up. Going back, this was never the case. Originally, these insanely subsidized prices were only for new customers.

Anyway, I ran into the same problem over a year ago. Found out my NE2 credit was only the main line. There wasn't a phone I felt was worth getting, but my wife was interested in a new phone. So I asked about using my credit towards another line and they said you could allocate it however you wanted. I actually got her phone through internet sales, but I ordered it on my phone line. Instead of activating per the instructions that came with the phone, I called customer service. They actually re-assigned the ESN to her phone number and properly activated it without affecting my line. So I, the main line, am still month-to-month, while my wife is still under a 2 year agreement. Low and behold, within a month I started getting NE2 $50 credit notifications in the mail, and to this day, I still have $50 waiting to be used to a new phone. All this in spite of supposedly using that credit toward her phone. Go figure.

Sprint worked fine for us, but I ditched it when we moved a couple years ago. I live in the Baltimore/DC area and despite the Sprint maps that pretty much show solid blanket coverage, our phones didn't work at our house. I had to walk to the end of the driveway just to get a bar of service. Verizon, I get 3 bars in my basement. It's just better coverage.
