Necessary to replace shortcut when app updated?

I know I've had some apps specifically tell me that if I have a shortcut to them on a home screen, I need to delete the old one and replace it after an update. Does that apply to all apps, or only those that specifically say the shortcut needs updating?

A related question is why would ANY app require changing a shortcut? Unless an update moves the location of an app, what else could change?

Unless specifically told to, I wouldn't bother changing it out. Widgets on the other hand typically require that to be done, post-update.
