need a little pattern lock help

I just got a Samsung galaxy s8(upgrade from my s5). I used the same pattern lock as my old phone, but decided to use the fingerprint sensor instead. I assumed adding the fingerprint would let me disable the pattern, but it won't. Having both is a pain, how do I disable the pattern lock?

PS - I can log into my phone, Im not looking to hi-jack someones phone.

So you need to fingerprint then pattern to unlock?
The unlock pattern usually comes up first when powering up, then any subsequent unlocking is obtained via fingerprint.

Also, the pattern unlock is used when your device cannot, for some reason, see your fingerprint. I've had the issue of my phone cannot read my fingerprint due to dirty fingers (grease, oil etc..I'm a mechanic) so it then asks me for my pattern.

As far as I'm aware you need 2 types of security enabled when using biometrics. The basic level is pin/password or pattern. This is used when you restart your phone.

With the latest OS on my S8+ every so many finger print logins (don't know the exact number) I have to use my backup sign in IE pin unlock. After which I am allowed to use my finger print login again.

So my guess would be that you just need to swap out the pattern unlock for a pin or password.
