Need a phone that won't hang up on people. What should I get?

I have the original Motorola Droid and I can't take it anymore. I continue to have my cheek hang up on people or mute the call, which causes the person to think I hung up and they hang up. I need my phone to work as a phone!!!!!

Does anyone have a smartphone with Verizon that does not have this problem? This is my second Droid and I have had this problem with both.

Here is what is important to me:

1) The phone works well as a phone. I will not have to worry about touching the screen with my cheek and hanging up on people.

2) I like the apps available on the Droid. I am concerned about Blackberry's limited app selection, so I am hesitant to go that route. I particularly like Shazam and 3banana, as well as a few games and you tube. Has BB app selection gotten better?

3) I like the car home gps navigation.

4) I like google calendar syncing with the phone.

I do not particularly care about getting email on my phone. I don't use facebook or twitter, so social networking features are unimportant. I can use any kind of keyboard.

Does anyone have a phone they can suggest? I went to Verizon yesterday and they were unable to help me. They said all smartphones have the problem with the cheek hanging up the phone during conversations. They suggested bluetooth headset or headphones, but I am not interested in carrying around another tool to use the phone. They called the droid hotline, who suggested I press the power button during a call to lock the phone. This only works until the phone moves slightly away from the head and hangs up on the person.

If I have to leave the smartphone until they are developed so they actually work well as a phone, then I will. So, if you have a suggetion for a phone that can get most of the four items I am looking for, I really appreciate the suggestion, even if it is not a smartphone. I hung up on one person two times in a minute. The second time was right after he was telling me my phone sucks. I need a change.

I have never had that issue with my Eris or incredible, wife hasn't complained about her x doing that, so I think there are plenty of choices. Maybe ask how to stop in Droid section? While I have heard of the problem I never used a Droid to talk on but I have to believe someone figured out how to fix by now.

A family member of mine was having the same problem on her droid...it was very annoying talking to her on the phone. She ended up with an LG Ally. It's not the most powerful phone, but it gets the job done. Her face doesn't hang up on me anymore, and it has a dedicated phone button which is somewhat unnecessary, but is nice to have cause it takes you to the dial pad no matter whats going on.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had created a thread to get fixes for this problem in the droid section and nothing worked. I am glad to hear there are phones not having this problem. (My husband complains of the same problem on his droid, too, so that is at least 3 droids with this issue.) I had asked about the Ally at Verizon and the guy said I wouldn't want it and a lot of people were returning it. Since your suggestion, I have been looking at the reviews and so far I haven't seen any complaints that I can't live with. I am going to keep reviewing and maybe try that one.

I've never had any issues like that with my DInc. It's got a proximity sensor in it. When it senses it's close to your face, it turns the screen off so you can't bump it accidentally. When you move it away from your face, the screen comes back on. Or you could just use a BT headset.
