We’re finishing an app that provides 365 days of important information specific to a particular professional field, a daily guide book. We’ve set it up so that the user will have full access to the 365 days for two weeks, then be prompted to purchase rights to the ongoing, full content. In order for this trial version to work, though, the device ID has to be captured (IMEI). The request for that permission pops up when the app is installing and asks, "Allow [app name] to make and manage phone calls?" This app has no business requesting phone access, but the Android system seems to have no other way of requesting that permission. Users are going to be rightfully suspicious of a request to “make and manage phone calls” and very likely not go any further with the installation.
What are my options for handling this situation differently?
Thanks.
