Help Need case for S5 with extended battery

victek

Android Enthusiast
I recently bought a 7800 mah extended battery and I'd like to also get a case. Can anyone recommend one? TIA

Likewise, I am curious as to the claimed specs of such battery.
More capacity needs more volume with present technologies.

You may be right about the phone losing its water resistance when using the back that comes with the extended battery. That doesn't concern me though as I never use my phone around water, eg beach, swimming pools, etc. Regarding a case I'm seeing some for extended batteries made of TPU which is soft/stretchy. I'll probably try one of those after I've confirmed that the battery is a success. It's still in transit but hopefully I'll have it in a few days and I'll post first impressions.

I received the extended battery today and just finished charging to 100% My phone has been working poorly since the lollipop update, but it was caused by the stock battery failing. I'll use the phone for a couple of days and post again about battery life.

I'm curious about your OEM battery seeming to be failing. Do you think it is just a bad one out of the crop of batteries made that day?

I have two S5 phones here, one is 'ancient' as I bought it 4/11/2014
The 2nd I bought as a Christmas present for my wife. I cannot tell any difference in battery life characteristics between the two.

I get 2+ days per charge with normal use. She gets 8-9 days and still has 47-50% remaining (but it is only used as a telephone). Today, I just looked at her phone with 47% showing and dropped it on the Qi pad to top it back out again....

I know the statement above sounds like I have been smoking crack, so I am putting up a screenshot.

Regarding the stock battery failing I believe the additional heat of wireless charging over the past ten months was a contributing factor, but I can't be certain.

Hmmmm, both of my S5 phones have Qi chargers in them...

I too noticed that if they are on the Qi pad for an extended length of time, the Qi pad generates a bit more heat than I think is good for the phone.

So, I make it a habit to recharge at 50% or more, that minimizes the amount of time that heat can build up while charging.

OK, so I've had the new battery in the phone for a few days now. The phone is working a lot better and holding a charge longer. It's hard to compare to the stock battery though. When I first got the phone last April I'd say the battery lasted almost as long as this extended one, however that was on a 4.x version of Android. After I installed the Lollipop upgrade (Verizon) the battery problems got worse, but that may have been a coincidence. Over all I'd recommend this extended battery if you don't mind that it makes the phone a little thicker and the loss of water resistance (the back cover definitely doesn't seal like the stock cover). By the way I found a TPU case that looks like it will fit well; I'll know in a few days. FYI there are some extended battery offers on eBay that include cases.

Edit: The case I received today fits over the extended battery back perfectly:
