Need drive letter for my ASUS Tablet

Hello!

I have the awesome Asus tablet, exact model is ME173X

I have been struggling for HOURS on this, so I hope people check and respond to problems often. Please :)

I deleted a file I needed by accident from my tablet. I have been struggling on GooglePlay store to find a good one to recover the file. When I gave up on that, I installed a file recovery program on my PC. However, when I hook up my tablet with USB, I can't access it as a drive letter.

I did more research and found out I have to enable developer tools, which I did, and it shows up as a device, not a drive letter.

I disparately need that file. And quickly! How do I get my tablet to show up as a drive letter so my file recovery programs on the PC will access it? OR, what is a great file recovery program for this tablet, trial free versions. I don't want to buy software and have it still not work.

PLEASE.

Hello and welcome to the forums. Now the tablet don't show up in the device manager as f: drive but it show tablet name . can I ask are you rooted if not clear the drivers from PC/laptop and redownload the USB drivers again

Oh thank you so much for responding and welcoming me to the forum. No, the tablet isn't rooted. Im not sure what that means but I tried to install an app and it said it wasn't.

So, basically from device manager, uninstall and reinstall the Asus Memopad?

When I connect the tablet it shows up as a "device", the MEX170 or whatever the tablet's name is. When I click on it I can get to the files on both the internal and SD card, but I need those to become drive letters.

Here's what it looks like when I plug in my tablet via USB.

Yes you need to unplug from the PC and reboot the tablet and plug back up USB make sure the USB debugger isn't checked I the development section. And it will download new drivers. If not remove all drivers from your PC and download all USB drivers again.

Well you need the drivers and the only way to get the drivers to start is uncheck when they finish reboot the PC and at that time check your USB debugging.

Uh.... I will reboot, but.... I don't see how that's going to change anything. So far I uninstalled the drivers (just did an uninstall from device manager). I will reboot, let it reinstall the drivers, and THEN check usb debugging. Right?

The drivers will need to be rebooted in order to work . just a simple download doesn't work . the USB drivers are just sitting in the air til you reboot the PC . when you reboot the PC it activate the drivers you just installed it always been like that. The drivers are like a update .

Yes I do. If I click on that device from my computer, it shows the internal memory AND SD card in the device. I just need to assign drive letters to those.

I have no direct experience of your device but if it uses a recent version of Android then I'm afraid you won't get drive letters no matter what you do, Android has dropped support for "mass storage" over USB and uses MTP instead, which is why it shows up as a device and not a drive letter.

Also if you have a update that would change this storage cause in USB mode you will need to select mtp on some devices .
