Need help, I have rooted but want to "Update"

Nooter

Lurker
Hello all, I am both new to this forum and the whole rooting scene.

Mobile: Galaxy ACE 2 – i8160
Android Version: 2.3.6
Rooted: YES

So I have rooted the phone but I realised that I need to update the android version because at the moment I can't download any apps from play store because they are not compatible with my version. I understand that you can't simply "Upgrade" I have to download a ROM.

After some searching for a ROM that is compatible with my device here are the results I found

http://www.lineageosroms.org/forums/topic/galaxy-ace-2-cyanogenmod-12-1-lollipop-rom-i8160/
http://androidcure.com/cyanogenmod-12-1-lollipop-rom-for-galaxy-ace-2/

I'm really confused on what to do at this stage, *I don't have a SD card, if somebody could point me in the right direction or link me some helpful resources that will be much appreciated.

To update by OTA you will need to reinstall the stock firmware via ODIN.

https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-ace-2/GT-I8160/

This site will list all available firmwares, but you need to choose the carrier your phone is from so you can find the correct version.

The slow download on that site will take forever so i suggest finding the firmware you need and googling to see if you can find a uploaded copy somewhere else.

If you want to update your phone by the ROM you showed you can do it without flashing the firmware (which removes root access). Check whether the ROM has bugs which you be uncomfortable with. If not I suggest you to use the custom ROM as it has more features.
