need help if possible on5 550t1

i have 2 of these galaxy on5 sm g550t1 phone that have 8gb memory. i taking 1 onf then as testing to see if i can get an sd card to register as internal memory. no luck so today i tried to root the phone and i spent all day trying about 8 different tutorials on how to do this for the on5 and none worked. so at this point i say it can't be done. so has anyone done it and of so send me the exact steps on how to do it.

i have the odin and super? and twrp and a bunch of other files and programs on my computer and the only thing i can get to work is the twrp rest in odin.

and the youtubes on how to make the memory work for these phones fails as well. now this phone i'm working on is not unlocked according to the small app on the phone. even though when i tap the button it runs and says unlocked failed in big words and in small words it say on locked approved mobile device is permanently unlocked. so i do not know if it is or not. maybe that is the reason. if so how do i confirm it is or not unlocked? on the other phone that icon went away after i ran it. not on this phone. thanks.

I'm assuming you mean oem unlocked? To do this go to developer options in settings and tick oem unlock. If it's selected then the bootloader's unlocked and you should be able to flash a recovery (If available) with Odin. Also when you boot into download mode prior to flashing with Odin it should tell you there if you're oem unlocked.

did it and nothing worked. i tired the app on the phone in the apps listings and odin and nothing works for unlocking it. so i guess i have to call metro pcs and see if they will unlock it. then i may be able to root the thing.
i got this phone from a guy local to me and he used it for a few months he said and did not like it so i got it. so i could experiment with it to see if i could unlock it and root it. if it got bricked then i was not out but 25$ i do not want to experiment with the wifes phone yet. thanks tomorrow i will give it another try but i stopped today to see if i could get exact procedures for doing it from this site. it it can be done then i'm hoping someone has the step by step instructions.

I'm still not entirely sure what you mean by unlocked. Do you mean carrier unlocked or bootloader unlocked? If you go to settings, about phone and then repeatedly press build number it should say developer options enabled or something like that. Back out of settings and then go back into settings and at the bottom you should see developer options. That's where you turn on oem unlocked so you can root.

i went to about device. tapped to get developer mode on then to developer options and turned on oem unlock and one more is turned on do not keep activities. that is it.
then in the metropcs home screen grouped apps there is one that says device unlock. i tap it and it then say permanent unlock. i tap it and i get requesting permission to unlock then it comes up and says in big words unlock failed and in smaller words unlock approved mobile device is permanently unlocked. but the icon is still in the pcs group folder. on the other hines i did that to that icon went away.

does that make sense now?
also that is how it was when i was trying to root the phone. thanks

If you boot into download mode does it say "oem lock off" or "oem lock on"? From what your phone's saying, it sounds a bit contradicting to me. Download mode won't be wrong. Also could you post the guides you've tried. Honestly I've got a lot of experience rooting Samsungs but not your device. If you post them maybe someone who knows your device might be able to help.

can't tell you if i boot to download mode i did the 3 keys volume down power and home button and i got the download if i press up on the volume and if i press down it just boots up?

if i press up volume the power and home button i get about 5 options one to continue one to bootload and some i can't remember now without doing it again.

is it making sense yet?

there is a lot of conflict about rooting the on5 metro phone. one of the youtube videos was for the lollipop that i tried and failed. none for marshmallow that i saw for the on5 metro phone. if you have step instruction send them along.

to be honest i don't care if it is rooted i just want to add more memory but it seem i have to root for that? your opinion on that is welcome.

It could also be helpful if you posted the links of the guides you've tried as someone could suggest one you've tried already.

i would if i could remember them. sorry. i have one up now that show the on5 marshmallow try out here is the link maybe this will work. it looks a bit different than the rest i tired today

so you have 2 answers?
Yeah that's recovery mode. You need to be in download mode to flash with Odin. Turn your phone off then press power, volume down and home.

Press up to get into download mode after the three button press and then you can flash

so what i did was press the volume down power and home buttons and a blue screen came up and said to press up for using downloading. if i press the down volume it rebooted.

if i pressed the volume up and power and home i a different screen and it had reboot and some other stuff and bootloader in it and such. i could not do anything in that screen it had some fault message on the bottom of the screen and would only let me reboot the phone.

Yeah that guide was missing the important bit after pressing power, volume down and home. You need to press volume up to boot into download mode. Once you're in the proper download mode and not just the warning screen you'll be able to see if it says oem lock off or on. If it's off connect it to your pc and Odin should give you a green ok. If so you're good to flash.

Yeah ignore the first bit. I misread so edited my post about the download mode. Yeah you can't boot out of download unless you flash or do the three button press again and then select down for reboot.

ok i'm going thru the steps now. i just pressed the down volume home and power and i'm setting at the warning screen. volume up to continue
volume down to cancel and restart phone

Or blue depending on the version you're using. It'll say connected either way.

Every Samsung I've had has always had the oem lock off or on under the frp lock. Since its not there it's new to me. I'll have to bow out as I don't want to be responsible for bricking your phone. Hopefully someone with that model will chime in.
