Need help in changing notification tone ( or by using ringtone )

Samkee007

Newbie
How do I change the notification tone under 2.3 Gingerbread? It seems like I have to use the boring ones that came with my Samsung Galaxy S 2? Another thing is I can't find any apps that would allow me to use ringtone to set alert, alarm for appointment or as a reminder. Again, I am stuck by using the boring default ones.
I came from Symbian OS this is my first experience in Android.
Thanks in advance.

Create folders on your SD card like this:

/sdcard/media/alarms
/sdcard/media/notifications
/sdcard/media/ringtones

Then, you can put any sounds you want to use into those folders. You will then be able to choose those sounds (in addition to the "boring" ones already included).

Thanks for the help. I'll update this thread once I've done it.

UPDATE:
I downloaded a bunch of the funny tones from Market and replaced the phone's boring ones so,it is ok now.
Thanks for your help.

I.e.: same as with prior versions of Android. ;)

You don't need to copy the exact folder structure above. It's the folder names (alarms, ringtones, notifications) that matter to the media scan.

Thanks... amlothi

Do you think this would be the same for the Samsung Galaxy Prevail?
