Apps need help in writing codes for nearby places in android google maps

Hi all. I am currently wanting to develop a function on my android google map so that it will detect nearby places or should i say landmarks or point of interest around my current location. but I don't know how should I start writing the codes to achieve what I want. Is there any websites that teaches what I want or can you people guide me to achieve what i desired.? your help will be appericated. thanks
