Need help re phone storage

Delanie

Lurker
I can't text because my Droid gives message that my phone storage is full. How do I fix this? And what does it mean to clear a cache? Do you lose everything?

Hi Delanie, and welcome to the forum :)

Clearing a cache is harmless. A cache is temporary files used by the app, stuff like recently viewed web pages in a browser. So you can recover internal space by clearing caches with no risk of losing apps or user data.

You'll get the best advice for your phone in the Droid forum. Phone storage is used by user apps, app caches and application data (user and system apps). Removing apps can clear space, but may not be what you want. It might be worth going into the manage apps menu and showing all apps sorted by size, and see whether any are using excessive amounts of data. Tell us what the big data users are and someone will be able to advise on whether this is reasonable (but better done in the Droid forum or Android Lounge rather than here).

Good luck, and if there's anything you need just ask one of us (staff, see the "Meet the Team" sticky in this forum).
