Root Need help rooting samsung galaxy mini

Hi, I tried rooting my samsung phone twice using the up_1 zip file (i don't know what it's called). Everything went well, except the superuser icon didn't appear on my phone both times.. What could the problem be? How else can I root my phone? I'm sorry, this is my first android phone and I know nothing...

Also, how do i change the fonts and themes for the entire phone?

I have the samsung galaxy mini 5570... i dont know why. i tried gingerbread too and that didnt recognized by my phone.. no superuser icon appeared...
