Need help to make a decision

Hi all,

My samsung galaxy s advance is lagging constantly while browsing, gaming and even when doing nothing. The most common problem is that it freezes for 5 minutes, with 2 options; waiting 5 minutes or pulling the battery. This is since I updated to jelly bean (already dit factory reset).

Im sick of this, so I'm looking for a new phone. Ofcourse the samsung galaxy s4 has got my attention, but it is a lot of money. The cheapest I found was om the amazon of germany for 500 euros (I'm from Belgium, next to Germany, so it doens't need to travel a great distance). I'm not sure if I should trust amazon or not (I want to be certain that I receive a new device and I don't want warranty problems).

Another phone I'm looking at is the samsung galaxy s3 because of the price drop (350 euros). This makes it interesting, because it is 150 euros cheaper than the sgs4.

My two basic questions are:

1) Should I trust Amazon.de: G

just a suggestion, have you considered trying a custom rom? (flashing may not be for all people and requires some general computer knowledge and troubleshooting skills) It could give you some extended life out of your existing phone.

(if done incorrectly could also brick it)

I have been considering this, but I'm scared to brick it and end up with no phone.

I know it's not that hard with popular devices like nexus or the the sgs3. But I think that the samsung galaxy s advance isn't as popular? I could be wrong.

I sometimes buy this android magazine where they also explain what rooting invloves and how to find a ROM, but my device isn't listed in there. And I read that less popular devices are harder to root?

Are you on the latest update for the Galaxy Advance? It initially came out with Gingerbread, so with all the newer apps getting written for ICS and up it may be causing the problems. The Advance's latest official ROM is 4.1.2 I think, just update it via Kies. This can get rid of your problems without going through custom ROM issues.

It indeed came out of the box with gingerbread installed. And now it is running jelly bean which I installed with kies 4 months ago. It is the official and latest update.

Many people that updated to the latest version complain about constant freezes. It has good days with only 1 freeze, but like yesterday it froze constantly whole the morning. It sometimes gives the error message 'touchwize is not responding' or something like that.

I had that when I upgraded my Tab from ICS to Jellybean as well. Probably had something to do with a lot of changes in TouchWiz. A Factory Reset fixed it for me. Just download Helium and backup your important app data before reset and everything will work great.

unfortunately I have already done this after installing jelly bean :/

I ordered the samsung galaxy s3 from amazon. It's still a decent phone and not as expensive as the s4.

Thanks for the help.
