Help Need hotspot to bypass restriction

Hello everyone!

Pixel 3a XL not rooted

Total Wireless 3 phone 60gb plan

I didn't perform due diligence and moved to total wireless without checking and am now unable to work while in the car due to Android telling me to contact my carrier to enable hotspot.

I've tried pdanet+ and hotspot control which worked for me in the past but are not allowing data transfer although I can connect to the wireless network provided by the app and setting the proxy.

Can someone suggest something that can get me slurping my data again?

Thanks for your time!

When you say "work in your car" are you talking about connecting to a PC/tablet or the car itself? I know it's old fashioned, but you could always use a cable to tether. That generally works where hotspots fail.

Of course the obvious answer is to sign up for the hotspot plan with Total Wireless.

Hi there lunatic and thanks for the reply! I do mean connecting wirelessly and I'd like to manage that rather than use a cable. If that's not possible, I'm wondering if there's a device I can purchase that can connect to the phone via a cable then act as a wireless hotspot. I like to keep all that stuff stuffed in the bags so I don't have so many cables in my lap.

I'm not sure i can help that much. I don't carrier hop -- been with AT&T forever, but I do get a throwaway sim every now and then. I also don't tether that much, but it's always worked for me wirelessly without a special plan. Two ideas that come to mind is to use a VPN which may confuse your carrier as to how the connection is being made (which might cost you more than a hotspot plan from TW) or, since Total Wireless is an MVNO for Verizon, you might see if VZW apn settings would allow data access. My guess would be not, since VZW tends to be very restrictive with data.

Every device I can find is its own mobile data connection with a separate sim card and data plan, rather than something that can piggy back off a mobile phone. Sorry. Maybe someone else will have a better idea.

The question still remains as Luna mentioned, do have have a hotspot plan included with your carrier ?? If not that will most likely be your issue.
