Need opinions: Will in-display camera release this year?

Xiaomi and oppo shows their in-display camera phones prototype which solves the notch problem. I wonder if will there be an actual product released this year?

I don't think that you can use this technology in IPS screens. It's doable with OLED/AMOLED screens but IPS is still superior when it comes to gaming or other types of display requiring very high refreshing rates.

Okay... So an all screen phone. Why would I need this? I actually like having top and bottom bezels. You can put dedicated buttons on the bottom and a selfie camera on top. What good is the extra space for you?

The answer to the original question is "we don't know". But in any event I'd wait to see how well it works first.

(Actually I personally wouldn't: I have no use for a selfie camera, so all I'd care about was that the screen quality was good and it didn't have a "bad" spot where the camera was hidden. But people who care about the camera should. My main worry is that whenever you have a black image at that point the camera will be visible, because black with an OLED just means that the pixels are turned off, and if you have a transparent substrate then that means you can see the camera).

Maybe they will let you see the whole mainboard, not noly the camera module ;)
