Need some advice...

Hello everybody, I'm new to this forum. So I have a Nexus 10 that I would really like to run Linux off of with Linux Deploy or something like that. Apparently I'm gonna have to root it... The thing is I understand that there may be some risk, but I REALLY don't want to brick my system. Honestly if that's even a somewhat likely outcome then I'll probably not. So I've come here to get the input from all of you experienced people who have done this. How safe is it to root a nexus 10? If so, then what is the best method of doing so? Honestly, if there's another way to run Linux with a GUI without rooting, then I'd probably opt for that. So far it seems rooting is the only option. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to Android Forums - it's great to have you here!

It's helpful to remember that Android is a derivative of Linux... that said, I'm not sure about running full-blown Linux on a device built to run Android. You'd have to take RAM limitations and the processor architecture into consideration. Maybe someone here has done it... you may want us to move your question to the Android Lounge where more experienced eyes may see it. Just let us know :)

Welcome to the forums.
There is a thread somewhere here about running Linux on the phone, I'll try and find it and link it.
With regards to the rooting, it tends to not be too painful as long as you read and re-read and make sure you fully understand. Take a look here for the Nexus 10 rooting forum and the top sticky post will have all the links to tutorials/ROMs etc. Just remember, follow guides and ask questions before diving in, there are always people here willing to help. I'll check back here if I can find the post about how to run Linux.

Ahh, I've found the thread. Don't know if it's exactly what you wanted but yes, you will need to root, then install Linux Deploy from the Play store to side load Linux.
Another trhead you may be interested in reading through is
The "Linux questions (and other stuff)" thread haven't looked through it myself yet so don't know how on topic it is but that is where i found the thread I was reading, top post on that page 96.
Any who, good luck with the rooting and Linux, remember to ask questions if you are unsure of anything.
