need some help in switching

Lurker
so, ive grown pretty attached to my iphone over the years. but, im in pretty dire need of a larger screen (5" or larger), and it doesnt look like apple is going to offer that (yet again).

so, im looking at a galaxy s4 on verizon. but, i have a few things i have to have figured out before i make a trial run. need to make sure i know what is, and is not possible. (btw: i use a mac as my main workstation)

these are the things i cannot live without:

sync photos over the air: with my iphone, any pic i take instantly pops up on my mac in iPhoto. i dont care if it happens over wifi only, or simply drops them in a dir on the computer instead of in iphoto... but i need it to sync without interaction.

messaging: i am now almost totally dependent upon imessage. being able to text from my computer is a requirement (and have those texts sync with the phone, so i see what was sent and when)

HELP ME SWITCH!!

I have comcast as my isp and they can sync your messaging to the computer. I think you can also forward your texts through the app AIM. You can just set any android to sync all photos to immediately go to Picasa / Google + Photos and it's shockingly fast how fast this works!

The main thing with android is you will lots of choices as to how to do this stuff, Apple usually only has one way usually.

There's also the Whatsapp method of texting which I suppose is similar to iMessage, in that it's internet-based, not SMS based. Whatsapp clients exist from the PC and I've not tried them but I assume they're fairly simple. However they're 3rd party, not official, so that would be your call to make.

For photos, many apps have an auto-upload feature, via wifi or mobile data, many people use Dropbox but I like Google+.

One of the really nice things about Android is, that you always have multiple choises - no matter what you want to do.

On iPhone you have to do things the Apple way. Nothing wrong with that - it usally works well. But in my book there is nothing wrong with a bit of freedom ... :)

This app allows texting on the computer through your phone:

wow... thanks for that. that might just work.

yes, but id have to talk all 100+ people that i text with on a regular basis to switch to a new app as opposed to using their stock messaging. not happening.

not being argumentative... but, no. there isnt "choice" here... so far, there isnt anything close to imessage. sure, i can kind of get close (the airdroid app looks to be as close as it gets) but some of the major features just arent there. i.e.: its not going to sync across a slew of other computers and devices. "choice" is more like "compromise". im sacrificing a lot of features just to get a larger screen.

i think i have enough info to give it a shot. going to try to find a used s4 now (just in case it doesnt work out... i wouldnt have spent an upgrade on it)

You can use Dropbox and even Google drive to store your stuff online like iCloud. And I'm sure once you search on Play Store there will be many. Needless to say now Android offers bulk of choices.
