Need to backup but cant log in s8

Stanwich

Lurker
Sooooooooo the bottom half of my s8 screen randomly stopped working. I can type most of my password but everything from the capslock down is dead. Im guessing my next step will have to be a hard reset but i have so many vids and pics from work and home id hate to lose. Is there anyway to backup without logging in or am i screwed. Or is there any other way to get my screen working . Not gonna lie its got a few cracks but they have never been an issue. Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated!

Will I use ZenUI Asus file manager and backup everything on my device to various Cloud locations mostly Google Google drive or Asus cloud, but there is more locations available in that file manager if you choose to do a factory reset.

But can this be done if i cant log into my phone?

Sorry, didn't see this in time. You could have tried connecting mouse or keyboard using a usb otg adapter and seen whether you could unlock using that.

Unfortunately I would not have thought a reset at all likely to fix something like this (it sounded far more likely to be hardware).

You didn't have an automatic cloud backup (Google Photos or a Samsung equivalent) by any chance? Worth checking in case it was enabled by default.

So it seem to have an hardware issue with your device but never the less you can still backup your device with that file manager because it has you to sign in with an account outside of device account, so you can login from a different device to retrieve your backup information. As for the device it sounds as if it needs to be at a authorized repair shop if the factory reset didn't work. I can't help with the device issues if it had been misused or poorly handled in any type of way.

Plug ut via usb to pc and allow storage to the oc from ur phone there you can transfer photo etc

Correct a PC can be used to backup your information, but my method was suggested as a standalone option just in case you didn't have a PC available like some people don't.

sorry guys, i already did the factory reset. No luck. Im going to have to send it in, ill have to pay the price of a new screen and other work since the phone has been obviously dropped and im sure that will void any of the warranty. But thank you for all the advice, I will try the other methods for backup next time for sure!

Yeah, I'm afraid that the best recovery method is always to have backed-up before something goes wrong. And the SD card does not count as a backup (if the phone is lost or stolen you lose the card at the same time), it has to be separate from the phone itself.
