Need to keep a running balance between phone and PC

(Getting no traction here, so I thought I'd re-post in this forum.)

I need something simple to keep a running balance that's accessible from any PC or my phone (Samsung Fascinate, stock 2.1 system). If I put an Excel file online somewhere (in a directory on one of my web sites), I can't edit it because I can't save changes to it.

So that probably means something cloud-based, yes? I haven't messed with that at all. Something exists that is free, easy, and secure?

Dropbox for the cloud service.

I use Office Suite on my phone, don't know if it's compatible with your phone, you'll have to check if interested.

(Prob'ly why it escapes me!!)
I was thinking an XLS-type file in the cloud.
But ThinkFree Calc opens and edits an XLS in Dropbox.

Google drive is good too.. But uploaded files 'belong' to Google......
