Need to root my device; don't know the first thing about rooting.

Hello, I'm new here and I was hoping I could find help/advice with a small problem that has recently reared its ugly head. I've dealt with this in the past and normally just sucked in my gut and went on with it, dealing with the damage by ignoring it. This time, I've decided to put my foot down and find a solution without giving up and simply dealing with the losses.

So I have a habit of filling up my phone and SD card with thousands of files I've saved from all over the Internet in the course of a few months, and I usually move them over to my PC when they become problematic for storage. Recently, my PC has taken a dip in the pool of digital senility and insanity (which is, of course, in no way related to the semi-forced Windows 10 menace) and it didn't copy over all of my files from my folder; only migrating about half of them.

The problem I have is that, being a dunce, I did not check to see that all of my files had been copied, and deleted the files from my phone before realizing very shortly after that only half of them had been copied. I have looked for ways to remedy this and have come to a solution that could easily restore my files from a rooted device. I do not have my device rooted, however, and that is why I have come here. I am completely new to rooting although I have been considering it for a while now.

I am looking for a guide to or advice on safely backing up and rooting my phone and/or a guide to restoring my lost files. I have an oldish, but not near dinosaur-level, laptop computer that is running Windows 10 at my disposal for this process and I am determined to continue working on my device until I have found a way to consistently recover lost files and to keep a safely rooted device. Any advice or references are appreciated. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime running Android version 4.4.4.

Thanks in advance!

There are apps that can root devices with some clicks, you might want to try those apps first as they are generally safe, if nothing works for your devices you can try the manual method.

Really?
One-Click rooting apps are to be used as a last resort,as they're known to install hidden malware that is often difficult to find/remove.

Why on earth would you post such advice?

The first method I would use to root ANY device is CF-Auto Root/SuperSU. While not available on all devices, its the most effective and popular way to root your phone, if you want to see if CF Auto Root is available for your device, you can run a simple google search. But beware, as using this method WILL void your warranty, whether it is via Custom binary flash counter or Samsung KNOX

"CF Auto Root >device model number here< >device carrier name (if any) here"
Example: CF Auto Root SPH-L720 Sprint
Example 2: CF Auto Root GT-P3113 Wifi

If that's not available for your device, then Kingroot is most-likely supportive for your device, all you would need is to take a little jog around your device specific forum page to see what version of the Kingroot apk will work for you.

Edit: If Kingroot DOES support your device, download Root Checker Basic from the Google Play Store to verify that root is properly installed. Afterwards, download Super SUme, the app replaces Kingroot with SuperSU.

-Best of luck to you!
