Need to vent

This isn't a question, but I am really angry, I have a Metro pcs Galaxy s4, which I paid a lot of money for. I am visiting the UK,for a few weeks.
First of all I was told by the rep that it was unlocked. Not true.!!!
Then as I had only had the phone for a couple of weeks and hadn't had the time to fuss with it, I finally got around to trying to password protect the sim Card. Metro PCS in their wisdom decided to block the sim, and will not do anything about it, until I get back to the states, then I have to go to a corporate store. So I am now carrying around an expensive paperweight. As I am here for a few weeks, to look after a family member who is having a baby, I am furious. It means I can\t even use it on the wireless connection as it is only now for emergency calls only!!!!
but I will be trying to get a refund of some of the money I spend each month. I am more than up to date with the payments, they are paid by direct debit.
Vent over,

Sorry if I see confused but Metro doesn't have service there so of course it won't work.

As for the lock/unlock part, where did you see/hear that this was an unlocked phone? Metro can activate unlocked phones but that's it. Plus, if your phone was unlocked you would still need a different carrier and plan while you are over there.

Edit - I completely missed where you said the Rep told you it was unlocked. I think he meant it was able to work on metro's service.

I know that metro PCs doesn't operate in the UK. But as I said they have blocked my Sim card.so I can only operate the phone with the Sim removed. This only happened when I tried to password protect the Sim card.I was using the phone before that with the Sim inserted. I can understand a phone being locked if you gave received it at no charge in exchange for a contract.but I bought this phone, therfore

Metro PCS default SIM Card Pin is the same as T-Mobile: 1234
Unlocking device is now unlawful here in USA (hopefully not for too long) and a prohibited subjet in this forum but a rapid Google search will give the answer.

Therefore it is my property. That is why I was told it was unlocked. Also when I return to the states I will be unable to make it re ceive calls until I go to a corporate store to get the Sim unblocked. I contacted someone called Daniel who was extremely unhelpful. Unless I am being extremely thick.surely the Sim can be unblocked remotely.

Are we confusing things here? If this happened when trying to set up a SIM PIN then it is probably nothing to do with the handset being locked or otherwise. Sounds like the SIM itself has been locked, e.g. because the wrong PIN was entered 3 times (there will have been a default PIN, and if you entered that incorrectly while trying to set up your PIN you could do this). If so it's not even MetroPCS responsible, all SIMs will do this automatically.

Assuming this is what's happened, what is wrong is Metro's response. To unlock a locked SIM you need to enter your PUK code. It's your carrier who provides that, but they could provide it over the phone (I've had to do this a couple of times in the last 20 years). Now it may be their corporate policy not to, but that's a bit shoddy when you cannot visit one if their stores. Maybe try again and ask specifically for the PUK code?

Let me stress again, if this is what's happened it's nothing to do with handset locking. In fact if the handset is really unlocked you should be able to put a local pre-paid SIM in and it will work, irrespective of the state of your Metro SIM.

I think the OP is referring to both things, unlocking phone and SIM pin unlock. First he was told the phone was unlocked when he bought it and thought he could use it overseas and found the phone wasn't . Other thing happened when he tried to SIM lock and inserted wrong pin three times.

Yes, I have the puk code now. but I dont know where to inout it,as it just tell me sim blocked and wont go to any other screen, If you can tell me how to work round that I would be extremely grateful. Sorry haven't been on the site, been extremely busy over here in the UK. I did speak to Metro pcs though and they said that there was nothing wrong with my account and again re-iterated that I had to go to a corporate store. I pointed out that if there was one in London, I would be more than happy to so do, but of course I know there isn't one, was just being sarcastic!!!. So I guess I'm screwed until I get back to USA.

update to the puk code dilemma, My grandson has th 19505 in the UK,and he put my metro sim in his phone and unlocked the sim, so it is all working now. still locked of course, but I have been assured that Metro will unlock it after 90 days. So I just have to be patient.
