Netbook PCs in the EU, how come only 1GB RAM?

Was browsing what netbook type PCs are available in the UK and Europe. One thing I did notice, is that they all appear to only have 1GB RAM. While the ones sold here in China, usually Lenovo, Asus or Samsung, always have 2GB RAM. What gives, is there some EU directive or law about netbooks only allowed to have 1GB RAM.

I recently bought a Lenovo S110 with dual-Core Atom, it's 10 inch, and it has 2GB RAM and Windows 7 Ultimate, while all the ones in the EU only seem to have the much more limited/crippled Windows 7 Starter as well as only 1GB RAM.

Netbook to me, meaning a small laptop type PC, around 10-11 inch, low cost, with low powered Atom type CPU. Which is enough to run Windows 7 or 8, a browser, play videos, can run MS Office or Libre Office, GIMP, Skype, etc. Not small laptops like the Macbook Air, which can be extremely expensive.

Though netbooks have kinda' gone outta style in the States, they normally had 1GB RAM and of Win7 Starter.

Surfing isn't normally resource intensive, netbooks mirror Chromebooks more than laptops.

They've kind of gone out of style here as well, compared to say three years ago. Think it's only Lenovo, Asus and Samsung making them now. It seems to be all about Android tablets now, especially where I am. It just caught my interest to see that in Europe, they only have 1GB and Win 7 Starter, while in China it's 2GB. And the new one I got came with Win 7 Ultimate, bought from the local official Lenovo dealer.

I think with 1GB you're going to be pretty much limited to surfing, and not much else, yeh, mirroring Chromebooks. The one I got is dual-core, it's not slow, can run MS Office 2010, Firefox or Chrome, Skype, QQ, Google Talk, GIMP, just fine, and can plug into the classroom projectors. Which is basically all I need for work, travel and pleasure.

I always liked the idea of a netbook. I need to travel light and my current work laptop is just too heavy. All I need is a word processor and I am good to go.

I almost bought an Apple Air but I decided not to, so I did not buy an Apple Air. Perhaps something used from a Craigs List seller will do the trick?

I am happy that I can be productive five years behind the tech curve. Good deals abound I should think.
