network question

yesterday i was messing with my breaker panel and i turned off 2 breakers. when turned them back on all of a sudden i can't get my tablet to get online to download any play store items. and for some reason my modem name changed.

i reset the modem 4 times to try and get the name back. i have 2 extenders and they will let me connect to them but not get online with them. my tablet is connected to the modem and i see my cameras but it says no internet. before i turned off the breakers i had internet with the tablet.

update

so i reset the tablet and i still had the not connected to the internet. but it does connect. the internet symbol has the ! next to it and that tells me something is not good, but it did download the apps i needed so i will just leave it alone for now.

and i had a spare modem the same model and i hooket that up and restored it to the other modem's settings.and is is working. and the network names returned to normal again. when i turned off the breaker something snapped in that other modem. so now to get a new one now. the one i have connected now is my backup. thanks

thanks but that did not work. we had a power outage this morning from a car pole crash. my ip address changed and then i had to have xfinity reset my modem because it did not come back up after the outage. i had to tether to my phone to get online to get xfinity to do a reset. for activation. and now for the lan name they now calli t netgear92 2 last night it was netgear and then it went to netgear92 ext and now netgear92 2. so that is the lan connection because when i unplug the cable i go to wifi and my speed drops.

i just had to do a pc reset so maybe something in the os is doing this. also now 1 of my extender will not connect to the modem. so i'm leaving it alone and calling it whatever. thanks call if fixed as it works so at this point i don't care if the lan is called god as long as it works. by the way on the wifes pc it is still netgear so that is why i think it is my pc doing this.

I'm very confused, @corvairbob! You mention names changing on your network--but that's something that should be up to you.

I always name my Wi-Fi network myself; when houseguests are here, they intuitively know which network is mine, versus neighbors', because of its name. When I've had more than one network (like when testing new equipment), I've named them logically so they could be easily distinguished.

I don't understand why you're not in control of your network's name, and I can't help wondering if this mish-mash of names has something to do with your problems.

i can rename it but i do not use names that hackers might id as me. the name on the device is just to generic. that is why i just leave it as it is. thanks

thanks but i will just leave it with the name it came with same security and then one less thing i have to deal with. some like to change names and that is fine with me but i will just leave it as it is. we have gizmo and i'm watching you and hidden network to name a few that my wifi picks up. and one guy calls his brown, and guess what his name is. but thanks for that input.

my question was if anyone happen to know why modems changed there own name, or if it was something in win10 that is now doing that. the last 3 days i have had 2 modems on my system and both changed there name on my pc but not pn the wifes. so now i'm leaning to something in my pc that is changing that name. so that is why i'm just leaving it alone. i have a wifi extender close to my pc and now i'm thinking the wifi is causing my pc to change the lan name to protect the innocent.

thanks much

ok now it seems to have settled on a single name now it is called netgear92 2. and today i was online and the pc in the lower right showed me to be offline. i had to reboot to get it correct. and now i have been going to all my bookmarks just to see what ones are still good, and i get message i have to reactivate my connection. i can't continue until i do. this is the modem that started giving me fits after i turned off the breakers and the power outage we have last weekend.

it is possible the modem to a hit. but it is on a surge protector that shows it to be working if i can believe the surge light telling me the truth. i can live with the name but that re-activate is now getting old, i may be looking at another modem soon. thanks
