Network Switcher

I was looking for an app that would automatically put my phone in airplane mode when I walked in the house (when in recognized my wifi SSID). Tried Network Switcher last night and does the job. Network Switcher | AppBrain Android Market

However, if anyone wonders why their battery drains so fast, it's apps like this that help it along. I manually put my phone in airplane mode each night and I lose either ZERO or 1% of battery in 14 hrs. With this app active (with only 1 "rule"), my battery drained 6% in 12 hrs. I have it set to update every 15 minutes (the max it allows)... so just checking for a WiFi signal every 15 minutes adds a 5% drain to the battery!

I suggest anyone complaining about battery life, check your apps that are continually monitoring "something/anything". Back to doing it manually...

This was free... and I assume it would require the same "monitoring" to know when you enter and leave a WiFi network. AutomateIt will also do it, but it's a larger app, full of stuff I don't need. It's actually just as easy to do it manually, and more "instant".

I had the app set for 15 minutes, so it waited 15 minutes to turn airplane off after I left my wifi zone. I normally just hit a widget when I leave the driveway. I could set it for every minute, but I assume that would drain the battery faster. I just need to root so my app space is more available! That would be a nice task for tasker, hit a widget and phone roots itself, formats the SD card, removes bloatware, and moves all apps to SD... :)
