Never get 3G?

When I had my HTC Hero, I never seen the "3G" icon at the top of the list. It was always "1x".

Then, I was showing my co-worker some Apps on his Verizon Droid today, and seen that he did have "3G".

What the hell! Sprints coverage map shows solid 3G miles upon miles all around me, and yet, I had never seen a 3G icon, always 1x.

What gives!

Do you know of any other Sprint phones that get 3G in the same areas? If so, maybe you need to take your defective Hero in for a fix.

If Sprint coverage just sucks in your area maybe you should switch to VZW.

EDIT: When your Hero is in 3G mode it will actually say EV instead of 1X.

Ah, okay, then yes, it actually was in 3G.

I seen somewhere it said the Hero had a 3G icon. Guess it was misleading. Just checked on a Samsung Moment, it did say EV.

As well, I no longer have the Hero anyways

It should have said Ev, 1x means you're not getting good signal, or you are roaming on Verizon.

Funny, this is the same reason I dropped Sprint.

Yeah, I do remember many times looking at my phone and seeing I was in 1x mode but as well, I think the majority of the time it did say EV.
