NEVER HAVE A DEAD BATTERY!!

I had a similar reaction to the Tylt Vu charger that I now use all the time. It is sitting next to my desktop workstation.

It was originally at Staples for $100. I laughed every time I sassed it. "You must be nuts" went through my mind.

Someone posted a code on Android Forums that gave $25 off on the Tylt Vu.

At that Christmas Tylt gave 50% off if ordered from their site.

I combined the two.

I got mine for $25 ... I figured that was about right.

The next day I went to Staples and passed it again ... still marked at $100.

For me the 45 degree angle was the clincher. If it was going to b laying down ... who cares ... plug it in.

... Thom

I just simply don't like hooking up cables to charge phones. The connector goes bad eventually, and the phone is toast. I keep my phones for years, so a long life phone is a necessity. Qi Chargers solved that issue for me. Every where I go, there is power available. In my car, on my Goldwing motorcycle, at a hotel, someone's home, don't matter. but the S5 gives me about 2 days per charge so it isn't a problem anyway.

My situation, I tend to buy a new phone every one or two years, and I've been doing that for 22 years now. During that time I've only ever had two connectors go bad, one was a fake Samsung Note where the USB pushed up inside the thing after six months..LOL. and a Nokia 6600.

I typically keep phones 3-5 years, and have never had a problem with the socket. So this isn't really a major concern for me.

Though fixed batteries probably make 5 years a thing of the past now...

I have had a minimum of 2, more like 3 phones develop very intermittent USB charge port connectors.
My Samsung Galaxy 'S' Fantastic (on Verizon) is very finicky about the plug. I continually need to use a Brand New Condition plug and place it at the "correct angle" or it won't charge. It is still a working phone, just not in service now as it is 5 years old.

My daughter has a Lumia Windows phone, and the charge port on it quit.... so she installed a Qi wireless charger, and now that phone is working again.

Prior to about 1999, our phones all had those hated "this device only" chargers with their noted feeble connectors on them. Horribly expensive to replace the charger on those. Almost as cheap to just get a new phone.

I have a Captivate lying around... It's the AT&T version of your Fascinate.... I could see how the port would get loose

The only micro USB I've ever had give trouble was on a very cheapo knock-off Samsung Galaxy Note, after 5 months. It actually detached completely and pushed up inside the phone, could hear it rattling around inside LOL.

How many different ways can you spell "SAMSUNG" :D

Has anyone had any experience with those phone case/batteries? Curious if any were decent, and how they worked. Personally I carry around a 10400 mah external battery pack. Maybe overkill, but I have a tendency to acquire phones with terrible battery life, ever since Droid Razr. :p

I have contemplated one of those Power Pack bricks to have with me. My sister actually did buy one. She lives on a ranch up in Utah and they go up into the mountains for weeks at a time horse back riding, floating on a pontoon boat, etc.... w/o that power brick they would not have anyway to recharge their phones.

I've tried to get her to use the car chargers, but she isn't technically oriented... says she has to turn the key on, and they can't afford to do that, if the diesel truck don't start, it is a long long ride out of there to go home. Her horse trailer has a mini apartment in it.

I could see how those would be very useful to her. I was always curious about the battery packs, then I bought a couple cheap 2600mah ones and one never held a charge, and the other only lasted 3 days. I figured I would try one more time with a decent brand, cos we were going on a long trip. Bought a decent 10400mah for a reasonable price. Has a 1 amp usb and a 2.4. I could not be any happier with it. I dont like plugging phones in to charge them either, I am paranoid about breaking the usb port on phone, never have though. My phones are wireless charging ready but I guess I have to get different back plates or the sticker things. For now this works well for me.

OK ... This is what I do so I NEVER have a Dead Phone while I'm out for long amounts of time.
Go to Amazon and search Phone batteries..Buy yourself 2 batteries. (Of course search the 1 compatible with your mod)
Then search( external wall) phone chargers. Also be sure to get the 1 that's compatible with your battery size.i have 2 of them .
They're very cheap and it's a great FIX to an ongoing problem
Altogether it shouldn't cost you more than 20$.. amazon or ebay has them with FREE SHIPPING!!

Meant to mention I think thats a great idea, about the extra battery and universal wall charger Crystalluv545.

You taught me something to day-to-day really no nothing about electric. I didn't no batteries came in different power or whateva mah means.. I guess I have the cheap ones. They are SAMSUNG 2600mah but they work fine. So I can get even stronger ones -I guess that means they'll last even longer ?

My first GalaxyS was a "Vibrant" by t.mobile.Its still working because my guy uses it but the port went out years ago. We have external wall chargers all over the house with extra batteries . I was using extra batteries since 2010 with the Vibrant because I bought it used and the port was always finnicky- I have no patience playing with the wire then hoping it stays. So I went on Amazon -got 2 extra batteries with the wall charger. The ended up sending me a double order. I kept it. Do u believe it's almost 5 years later and 2 out of the 4 batteries still work!!!

It's like that with my Galaxy4. The port acts up. Some USB work fine others don't connect ?? I'll stay with the external chargers .

Samsung Phones have always been very fussy about the cables they connect to. I've actually had more cables go bad with Samsung devices then the USB port.

My Galaxy S5 which is now 18 months old no longer works with the charging port.
Glad that I had installed the wireless charger last year. Now, that is the only way it will recharge.

Still using the OEM battery, never bought a spare, so far can't detect any loss of efficiency....
I have an alarm set at 40% and try to recharge it at that point.... is that why it is still good?
dunno, but can't hurt.

get 2 days per charge on normal use for me.

I was referring to the portable rechargable battery/power banks. Your phone you say has 2600 mah stock battery, (I didn't know what mah stood for until i just looked it up, Milliampere Hours.) From your pic you have a samsung, for popular samsungs I have seen larger, like heavy duty batteries, even from samsung but also other brands to use in your phone, but they require a different back plate that they usually come with, but this means your current phone case (if you have one) would be unusable with the larger battery.

Edit: I get the impression you have an S4, they definitely make larger, heavy duty batteries for it. Check out Amazon if you think it may be useful, but like I said any current phone case will no longer fit. I think they are called larger capacity batteries.

My wife has had her S5 for about a year. Has that wierd connector for the usb. Have often used a normal phone cord to charge and transfer files. I have yet to determine what the other side of it is for. But it has worked flawless. Used to last a whole day of heavy use with battery to spare, but not since lollipop. Downgraded it once back to kitkat. After a few months decided to try the newer version of lollipop. That was a mistake as verizon locked it to no downgrade or root.

On the Samsung S5, that port has two separate functions.

The standard one that you can use the old style charging cords on, will carry data and charging current. It is the ONLY port that charging current can go thru.

The other weird port, is for USB3 and has a higher transfer rate for pushing files from the phone to a PC.
that port still works like a champ... I use it quite a bit, and I have quit carrying my Sony DSLR with me... I do all my picture taking now on my phone.. it is actually a LOT more versatile than the camera is.

Thank-you. I was always curious about that port, should have thought about the usb 3.0 thing. I agree the S5 camera is a pretty nice one. I use snap camera with it and it seems to do better.
