New 2.3 Firmware

Let me repost here one information that I have posted on other topic:

For you guys looking for a 2.3 firmware there is a good news on the chinese foruns, the guys from the A team convinced other good forum (chita) engineers to help them to convert CM 7 to Lephone, CM7 is based on Android 2.3.5.
The process has just started, and will take some time, but with the right engineers helping should be a good one.

I'm ok with it.. satisfied so far...

Hi Rocky, I have been futile whole afternoon trying to get the fastboot to work. It does not seem to recognise the device drivers from sdk package although they are working fine with adb and PC-Suite. Putting the 3 images files in sdcard image folder isn't working too with usual boot-start - so it seems fastboot is the only way to flash it.

Need your help to point whether I miss out anything with the fastboot installation ie device drivers.

Thanks.

Don't worry about it as I have resolved the drivers issues. Anyone having the same problems with fastboot drivers, then the appropriate drivers can be found here: http://android.modaco.com/index.php...attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=66762

Gingerbread is humming along faster than Leos, but vanilla keyboard is really not for human.

Hi

The firmware is great - much like the Lenovo A60 2.3.3.

However, no matter what I try I cannot get Market to work. Can anyone suggest a why? I keep getting either the "Stuck at Starting Download" problem, the "Encountered an Error Problem" or the "GTalk and Market Crashing on startup" problem!!

Maybe it's the GApps versions I am using??

Any advice gladly received

Thanks

John Joe

Market is working fine for me altho loaded with old version 20101114.
Have been playing with it past few days. Definitely much better in both performance and aesthetics.
- Better battery life ('cos I was running Launcher ontop of LEOS),
- More stable 3G signals (no need to reboot constantly when out),
- Vhappy with Skype and Viber all working well (on LEOS skype audio comes out of audio spkr instead of handset spkr even when using headphone),
- Customised your own charming home screen with date, weather etc - instead of in-your-face 4Clovers

Problems
- Mute button of stock phone caller not working (take note esp if on biz call). It was working properly under LEOS caller.
- I couldn't get the phone rooted with Z4Root - keep on running infinitely at first, and now it force out itself. This is bad .... real bad for me .....

Strange Z4Root works for me but SuperOneClick didn't.

Thanks for the heads-up about the mute ;-)

"Problems

uum... what do you mean?
On LeOS if you turn over the phone with the screen down, you turn off the ringer during call. - standard firmware doesn't do that.
On LeOS, the right button opens the camera and takes pictures. - this one does not. it works like lock button.

To get root in this firmware 2.3 you should use this program - GingerBreak v1.20: [App] [26.04.2011][v1.2] GingerBreak APK (root for GingerBread) - xda-developers

Many thanks Shelvadim. Taking a break from the flashing/hacking after a futile few days - mentally wasted already. Will try Gingerbreak after coming around it, and not holding my breadth tho 'cos my phone still could not root even after reinstalling LEOS (which was rooted previously). Somehow SuperUser appears not properly installed (via ADB or SDcard) in both versions and unable to load its new binary update file. I may have missed out some procedure or had already bricked the root. Any ideas/guidance on this thread will be appreciated.

Meantime have been enjoying my customising and using 2.3. Pretty impressed and liking it. Don't think will forego android versatility for an iPhone now.
Further observation:
- Wifi signal same as LEOS - weaker signals than iPhone when using home upstairs away from downstairs router.
- GPS surprisingly much better than LEOS with quicker lock-in.
- Handover to 3G (from wifi) not reliable for my phone. But no need to reboot (like in LEOS), just tick 2G and it will go back on to "E" signal and then untick to get back "3G". Not great, but at least work out better than what I had in LEOS.
- Confirm my battery usage is better after loading/installing similar no of apps.
- Youtube at least from my limited testing seems more compatible and quicker, was erratic with flash player component in LEOS.
- I miss the LEOS horizontal right swipe feature to minimise current app and select other running sessions. 2.3 recent app screen just not the same altho can live with it.

No not that. While you are already on a call, the muting feature is not working at all altho it appears lighted up ie the other party can still hear everything you are saying!!! So be aware of it when on the line with your in-laws!!!

No - Really want to keep this ROM so been trying everything I can find on the 'net but still no luck.

I have been trying to figure out the "correct" install for GApps - I think this is where I am going wrong.

Everything else works great - the shortcuts, SMS, menu system are all much better.

I know I can download the apps elsewhere but it's just "I want it to work" syndrome! LOL

OK NO matter what I can not get Market to work - I still think it's me doing something wrong :o

So, I have the Lenovo A60 working with market now so I just transfer the APKs from there and into data/apps and data/apps.private

Also using the alternative Market for some items.

ROM is very stable even after freezing all the crapware and will stick with this until the next major update.

Thanks for everyone's input on this!

Cheers

John Joe

Did anyone manage to install the latest market and to make it work on 2.3.2?
If I install it does not allow me to download any application. It says there is no space on the device... even if it is.

My market is working fine. Nothing different from previous installation procedure using Gapps-20101114 version.
Try setting your data to 2G for first login.

Has anyone here tried successfully in backing up the entire ROM image - either using Rom Mgr or native nandroid procedure?????

I could not even figure out what buttons on lephone to set it up to recovery mode. So anyone who has done it, appreciate your pointers.

I am talking about the latest version 3.1.5.
I install it, opens, however when I try to install any application from market it says "there is insufficient space on the device"
