New App: Hush - Call & notification blocking (Version 1.1.1)

So for a couple years I use to carry around two phones everywhere but became tired of the hassle (always charging two phones or getting called on your work phone while your headset / carkit is connected to your private phone).

At the end of 2020 I started using 2 SIM cards in my Samsung S20. This works fine except when I’m not working I still saw all the calls, emails and direct messages from my colleagues. This way I never really got my mind off work. Especially with the global pandemic forcing you to work from home, finding a healthy work/life balance is even more challenging. I wanted more control over the relentless amount of notifications I receive every day.

So I searched for an app in the Play Store that automatically could block phone calls from just one SIM card during a specific timeslot (end of every workday, weekend and vacation). Without turning the SIM off, since I still want to be able to use the data connection from my work SIM card. And ideally also lets me select a couple of apps (Gmail, WhatsApp for Business and Teams in my case) to block notifications from those apps too. I tried serveral apps but I couldn’t find an app that provided this advanced functionality.

Since I’m a professional Android developer I’ve decided to build one myself as a side project, together with a befriended UX designer. The app is called; Hush – Call & notification blocking. It lets you create unlimited amount of ‘rules’ to automatically block/unblock phone calls directed at 1 or both SIM cards. You can choose to block all calls or just a selection of specific phone numbers. A rule can also block notifications from any app on your phone.

When your rule ends all the blocked calls and notifications will show up again. Or select to dismissed your blocked calls and notifications completely. You decide. We think Hush can also be usefull in other situations. Like when at the office and you don’t want any distractions from social media apps or phone calls from friends.

Hush is very privacy minded (GDPR compliant), ad-free and saves everything locally on the device. Personal data is encrypted and never transmitted over the network.

Since there are a lot of tech enhousiasts here I've decided to share the app. We're happy to hear any feedback, suggestions or bugs.

Hi,
I started using this app just today because I've your same problem on my Huawei P30 Pro dual sim. The app seems very good in its conception, I just created a rule for silencing my work number after 5 p.m and at the weekend. Let's see if it works fine, but I'm pretty optimist! ;)
