Help New aspect ratio issue in MX Player

I'm not sure if I had some sort of automatic update on my media player today, but it's an M8S TV box.

I primarily use MX player to play most of my videos.

As of today, out of the blue, playing any video on HW decoder mode causes it to be forced into a "squished" 4:3 aspect ratio. Any actual 4:3 videos are fine, but anything that is widescreen automatically gets squished. Other video players seem to work okay as well, but MX player in HW mode was definitely the most stable and reliable prior to today.

HW+ plays things fine (but isn't compatible with everything, especially H265)

SW has never worked well for me and plays things choppily.

In HW mode, literally nothing seems to fix the problem. I've tried installing 3 different versions of MX player, turning "correct aspect ratio" on and off, playing with the aspect ratio in the menu (this only gives slightly different variations of 4:3), playing with the stretching (same thing, in never stretches past 4:3).

I've never seen something so determined to not display in 16:9 :p.

Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks!
