NEW battery won't charge

I received a new battery for my galaxy yesterday, it arrived charged and worked perfectly except it won't re-charge. I have tried a variety of different charges, in the wall plug, usb, and car.

My old battery will run the phone, but only when plugged in, and tried the old battery again here now and the phone turned on and is working (while plugged in).

Is this a phone problem (OS, bad app) or just a bad new battery? Any suggestions are appreciated.

New battery ... try the wall charger and cable that came with your phone. If it does not charge I think you got a bad one. (It is an OEM battery right?)

Old battery ... sounds like it is just not holding any charge and you are forced to run with it connected to the charger.

It is an OEM battery. I assumed the old battery was fried, but now worried that it may be something with the phone with this new battery not working.

Thanks for your help.

Perhaps one of your many chargers damaged both batteries? Perhaps the connection between the socket on your phone and the battery is somehow damaged?

If it was me I would go to the carrier store or a repair shop.

Samsung hardware and the Samsung charger disables all charging for what they feel are 'unsupported' (non-Samsung) batteries. unfortunately, a bad charger is common out of box and will cause the same problem with legal and legit Samsung hardware.

the notification will say 'unable to charge non-supported battery. see owner's manual'.

when my phone is plugged into the charger it doesn't do anything...it's like nothing has happened (with the new battery). As stated earlier, the old battery works when plugged in.

does the old battery charge? sounds like you got a bad charger otherwise. on a Samsung, newer Samsung phones don't display the message that i posted, but will show a 'circle with slash' through the battery symbol letting you know that it's not charging.

I have 6 different chargers and my wife's galaxy is charging fine on them. I'm pretty sure it's either a bad battery (the new one, I know the old one is shot) or something wrong with my phone itself. Just have to try another battery.

Use the OEM charger and OEM cable that came with YOUR phone to do the testing. It is the only way to strip away the assumptions. All chargers are not created equal. All cables are not created equal.
