New customer 14 day return question

What if I sign up with Verizon and get a discounted phone. Then decide I don't like it and return it within 14 days, but don't exchange it for another. Can I then put an old droid X on my line, and am I still eligible for an upgrade since I didn't buy a discounted phone?

Thanks

My understanding of that situation is that yes you can do this, but there are two results of this. First is that you will be charged a restocking fee ($35 dollars I think). You will still have your upgrade available, but you are not allow to do this indefinitely. I believe they only allow one switch per upgrade and that would use it up. So if you choose to upgrade in the future, you would not be able to return that one.

I was wondering how many times I can change my mind about an upgrade. If I get one and don't like it, besides a restocking fee, can I go through 5 more phones to find one I like?

I'm pretty sure Verizon put a 1 exchange only per upgrade policy into effect in 2011. I'd have to go back through to TOS to be sure though.

Yes only one exchange is allowed. Once you get the second one, your stuck with it unless you buy another at full retail price.

35 dollar restocking fee if the box is opened.

You are allowed 1 worry free guarantee exchange. This way a customer isn't getting a brand new phone every 2 weeks because VZW will lose a ton of money and a customer will never be in a contract term more than 2 weeks.

I dont know why you are so upset about the policy. VZW isn't going to have some loophole that allows customers to screw them over.

I have yet another question. If I buy my new Verizon phone from Amazon. Could I at some point before the 181 days, deactivate the phone I bought through amazon and put another in its place. I wouldn't be cancelling my service, just switch phones.

I know 3rd party sellers have different terms, so I'm not really sure about all this.

Thanks again

I'm just thought that since so many regularly purchase their phones from 3rd party sellers, they'd have experience with these sought of things.

Every seller has slightly different terms, and they do change from time to time. That's why it's important to read the retailer's contract as well as Verizon's before you complete the sale, regardless of the advice you get from others. In a world where many people only deal with the contracts every two years (unless you have a family plan), it's very easy for our knowledge to be out of date.

I wasn't expecting to have a loophole. I remember now why it's so important to make a very informed decision and not have to change my mind. I do what all of us on here do. I research, I read reviews, I try them out, etc. I don't plan on changing my mind! :)

What "free" exchange? Verizon charges $35 for every exchange. I've been with them for over 10 years and all the things that were actually free now have a fee associated with them.
