Help New droid-user with questions

NCC369

Newbie
Hi,

Last weekend I started my Android-adventure with my brand new Galaxy Ace.
I've liked it so far, but I still have some things I can't seem to figure out:

1) text messages always seem to be grouped by contact, no matter when the texts were sent/received. Is there a way to change this? I like the message thread-style, but I don't want threads to grow to giant proportions. It would be great if all messages from/to a contact on one particular day would be grouped in one thread, and the next day a new thread would start (for the same contact). Is there any way I can do this?

2) I can't seem to find the "shut down"-button in the web browser. Whenever I leave the browser and go back to the homescreen, it is still present in the task manager. Is there a way to shut it down completely and save battery?

I hope I expressed my questions in a way you can understand (not a native english-speaker here).

Thanks in advance for any answers you can provide.

Greetings

Hi, and welcome! To change messaging you'll need to install another messaging app like go SMS as the stock one can't be changed.
To exit browser make sure u continually press the back button (not home) until it closes.

Hope this helps.. (if so press the thanks button!)

Too bad about the messaging :(

And holding down the back-button does nothing (I tried holding it for 10 seconds)

I also discovered the way to find out what is using battery-power, and I find it strange that "maps" is using 95% of my battery, while it's not even on (and GPS is turned off). Any thoughts on that?

Its always running as it is used for location based services. 95% does seem very high though! if it persists might be worth a factory reset.

(holding down the back button and continually pressing are two different operations)

You can limit the size of message threads, in the messaging settings there's an option 'Text message limit', just set this to a lower number if you prefer. There is no way to change the thread style using the normal messaging app, but I think you'll probably get used to it- at first I found it odd but now I much prefer it.

With the web browser I think a lot of people have also found even when pressing back it still remains running, just simply go into Task Manager and end it manually, I know it's an extra step but not too bigger deal..

I guess I'll try go SMS and kill the browser manual.
About the "maps" taking up 95%, I think it's a bug in the software. I haven't charged the phone since sundaynight (4 days 22 houres ago) and still have about 40% battery left... I'm not complaining because this already far exceeds the battery-life of my old phone.

Thanks for the replies :)

Leaving the browser open won't consume much power.

An easier way to exit browser:
Press the menu button. Press the windows icon. Close all the open Windows. Then press the back button 2 times :)

In dolphin browser it is easy to close all the tabs and exit browser.
