new in the android world AND the US needs help please

Hi guys

I need help please. Following situation:

I am with Tmobile but I have no network coverage around my house.
(I can get out of my contract any time)
I have an open 3GS I brought from Europe.
ATT is out of question ( these guys wanted me to put down 500$ deposit, I would have put down 500 as prepaid, but NO WAY as deposit)
I looked into Verizon, but what a joke, they dont have a single internationally usable Android phone.

I am really happy I asked the sales guy in the last second before I signed the contract, I nearly toppled over when I heard hat the Droid2 isnt quad.

can you guys help me out?

What provider aside AtT and Tmobile are out there that have a quad band Android phone?


Or should I buy an Android phone somewhere and use it on Verizon? But then which one?

There are rumors that the Droid Pro will be coming out in the next few months on Verizon. It is said to work internationally.

Yep. Wait for a international Verizon Android phone. T-Mobile and AT&T are the only GSM carriers that have national coverage. Other smaller carriers only have coverage in certain regions and you'll start roaming as soon as you leave that area, which can sometimes be as small as a city.

Sprint and Verizon use CDMA, which isn't compatible with mobile networks in the world. There is no such thing as a quad-band phone on their networks, other than the limited amount of CDMA/GSM hybrid phones they have.

Yeah, the US is pretty messed up when it comes to our mobile networks.

Do you have good T-Mobile coverage away from your house? It's a crappy workaround, but it could still work. T-Mobile used to sell feature phones that used UMA (wifi-calling). You could buy one cheap on Craigslist (around $30) and just switch your sim card into it when you're at home. The other workaround would be to use google voice in conjunction with SIP so that you could just utilize wifi. Neither are wonderful options but they would at least work.
