Help New MetroPCS update this morning.

I am not that new to cell phones. However I am new to to the stuff you can do to them. I just did the OTA update. After trying to find out what this update did/solved/caused I am seeing that I possibly shouldn't have done that. Have I made it into a permanent slave of MetroPCS now? What can I do with my phone now? I have notices there doesn't seem to be many trolls attacking new people on here so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I apologize in advance for any questions that may seem simple to others while stumping me. Thank you all to those who take your time to assist me.

That was probably 10j, it was to fix stagefright, an exploit that could let hackers take over your phones. You should still be able to root it if you want to.

Just go to settings then go to about phone, then Software info, rapidly tap build number till is says you are a developer.
Now go back to settings and go into Developer options, Check "Enable OEM unlock."

Here is rooting and all that. http://androidforums.com/threads/guides-oneclickroot-v10j-flashable-rom-unbrick-guide.922186/
