new motg5 plus fell into toilet

My motog5 plus fell into the toilet on xmass night and screen went blank not long after. Next day i searched on the internet and found a few pages saying to put it in rice. I disassembled the phone into 4 parts and have it sealed in a bag with rice. 2 days ago i tried to turn it back on but all i got was a small vibration! I then put back into rice in sealed bag. Last night i used some nail varnish cleaner to clean off the corroded parts i seen on the board. I am going to leave it untill tomorrow to put back together and see if itll work again. If what ive did already fails, what would be the next process to get this working properly. My main concern is getting my pics and videos from the phone. I know this might be the end of the phone altogether so if all fails, i will reluctantly throw into the bin :(

I tend to agree, the damage may already be done. When there's water involved, you need to act immediately, not the next day. If some vital internal components were shorted out, it's essentially permanent. Once 'dry', a damaged part won't be restored back to life.

In this case, you've already waited hours before you started the remedy. Till then the damage to the h/w components may have already been done. The only way you can recover, if the mobile ceases to work, is the cloud upload, if you did that.

i didnt set it up to my google account :( not that i can remember anyway but looking in my google account, theres nothing recent on it :(

I wish i had of knew this at the time :( Looks like its for the bin then :(

You could try, just for shits-n-giggles, bathe the device in alcohol. Rubbing alcohol that is, not your top shelf spirits :D 90% purity or better would suffice.
There was another member who alcohol bathed it much later after getting soda in it, and miraculously brought it back to life.

Worth a shot I suppose :D

I put everything back together , turned the phone on and thinking thats it toast because nothing on the screen. I heard the moto g start up music at the start, then i shook it and the light came on at back, shook again and it went off. Im now thinking its the screen, infact i would say 99.99% its the screen. Im going to order a new screen on amazon so wanting to know, does a motog5 screen fit the motog5 plus phone?

Keeping it in rice for such a short time won't help much. Put the phone back in the rice, disassembled into 4 pieces as you had it, and bury it under a shallow layer of the rice. Keep it in sunlight, like on a window sill, or somewhere the bag will get a chance to heat up some. The more heat, the more water will expel and the rice will absorb it quickly. The longer your phone sits in the rice, the better. Like, a week or better. If you are going to disassemble to replace the screen, do that, and let the motherboard and LCD assembly sit in the rice, and dry out the housing manually.

Use alcohol only if it's completely disassembled. Alcohol is great at absorbing water, but if fully assembled phone is doused in it, any adhesive compounds or gasket will be compromised. (screen may lift out after some time, battery adhesive or battery logic board may fail, etc..)

Just throw it in bag of rice, broken down as much as possible, WITH BATTERY REMOVED, seal it, in a warm area, walk away. Leave it for a week and it has a good chance of coming back.

I'm a seasoned electronics whiz, repair/own many phones, and have revived many after water damage, even some that have sat in water for hours, successfully.

Buy a screen that can be returned. You may not even need it, good luck!
