New Motorola moto Ef 4G 7.1.1 on its way, how do I root it?

I want to meet my new phone at the mailbox with full rooting instructions, it sounds like the right phone to root, fully customizable, I'll be in my element... I'll need to root it without a pc, my laptop is a last resort. I want to put Oreo 8.0 on the Motorola, it has 7.1.1 so it shouldn't be difficult. Beyond that, I don't know if I should go with kangoroot or another rooting app, the one click option has me wary, not knowing the process, but if it's the easiest way and it works I won't argue. The last phone I rooted was a Samsung, and I remember having to download honeycomb to be sure it was on the phone for the rooting to be successful, it's been a while since I've done this.

What carrier? Do you have a full Model # that you can give us?

Most Motorola root methods require a PC to unlock the Bootloader and to install a custom recovery. Then flash SuperSU or Magisk in recovery. PC also need to flash back to stock if something goes wrong.
Best to stay away from the one click root methods.
