New Nexus One Questions...

Hello all ... So I buckled under pressure and bought a Nexus One (just typing that brought a small tear of joy). So now I have a ton of questions. I have searched, but really haven't found a whole lot on these few topics. Any help would be great.

1. I bought the dock along with it for bedtime use. Is there an app or setting that will allow me to silence the phone when docked automatically and unsilence when taken off? (ala blackberry docks) This is kind of basic stuff that I think I should be able to do.

2. How easy is it to root an N1? I can see some definite benefits, but will I be getting in over my head? Is the Sense UI all that worth getting as a ROM?

3. Best multimedia manager for the desktop PC? Right now I have doubletwist and it is fine, but are there better ones out there?

Thanks for the heads up on some of this stuff, sorry for such beginner questions, but what better place to get answers.

Hey there, I'm brand new here, but like you, have been doing a bit of poking around. I may be mistaken, but I seem to recall reading about an app called Locale that will do what you mentioned with the dock. Also, I found this site that discusses rooting in great detail. I should mention, however, I haven't rooted anything so don't place too much stock in anything I say. :) As far as your last item, sorry, I got nothing.

Easiest Android phone to root since it's got a built-in command to unlock the bootloader. Benefits: theming your phone, being able to use your flash as a flashlight, being able to change trackball notification colors, installing apps onto SD card, letting the phone access all of its 512 MB memory, custom ROMs with better optimization than stock, free rotation, more control of the phone in general. I wouldn't say it's required by any stretch of the imagination, however.

I have no use for this kind of thing, but supposedly MediaMonkey is a pretty good alternative.

Damn you and your docks!! *shakes fist*

:p

Really the only thing I dislike about my Moment is no docking capability. I have no idea why all phones do not come with that feature nowadays, as more and more people have cell phone only households. The constant plugging and unplugging gets to be a hassle. :(

I think I am going to take the plunge, but I have one more question. If I do this and my warranty is "voided", can't I just restore it to factory settings in order to send it in for repair if needed? I mean, what if the screen get lines or usb connector stops working, can't I just restore to original factory settings and no one will be the wiser?

supposedly if its hardware they will still repair it even if its rooted, but if its a software issue, you're SOL. Ive read different claims though so youd be better off waiting till someone who knows for sure can say....not to threadjack, but shouldnt this be in the Nexus forum?
