New OS Pie audio time out

Help! Since Pie was installed my phone will turn off audio apps like Audible, whispersync, podcasts, etc. after 4-5 minutes. This requires me to unlock phone and re-tap play, only to have sme thing happen over and over. I cannot find any controls for the Adaptive Battery which I suspect is causing this problem.

Go into Settings > Apps, select the app and look under advanced settings for "battery". Click on that and you'll find options related to battery optimization and background usage.

Those are the instructions for a Pixel - I can't rule out a different manufacturer changing the structure of the settings.

I should add that I've never met this problem, and none of my audio apps are excluded from battery optimization. They are however all allowed to use battery in the background. But both of these (battery optimization on, use in background allowed) are the defaults.
