New Outlook.com email from Microsoft

Is anyone using the new Outlook.com email? So far I really like the interface and so right away I wanted to see how it worked with my phone.

First, I set it up with the regular email app on my S3 and it seems to work fine, but it doesn't sync very often or even at all. It actually seems as though you need to manually refresh the inbox folder everytime on the desktop.

Thus, because i've been so spoiled with the S3's speed I wanted it to sync faster. That being said I looked for an alternative and I noticed that the new outlook.com email works with Exchange Activesync. I tried to set it up, but I don't seem to have the correct settings.

If anyone is using the Exchange Activesync I'd really appreciate to hear how you have yours set up and how well it has been working for you. If you don't use the Exchange Activesync and still have the new Outlook.com email I'd like to hear your first impressions?

Thanks,

I am a Hotmail user (actually @MSN.COM which predated Hotmail) and Exchange ActiveSync was something I used on my Captivate. I don't much like the stock Samsung email client (home screen fonts way too big) so I use the official Microsoft Hotmail App.

You might try it....my guess is they'll be rebranding that app at some point in the future but the guts of it should already work with your email.

My work email account uses active sync. I was not able to get it setup with the default android email app. I purchased the enhanced email app from the play store and it worked right away and I have it set to push emails straight to me. As soon as an email is sent I get it right away.

You do have to manually configure it, the only thing I had to do research on was the actual exchange server which ended up being activesync.xerox.com

I got mine up an running with the stock email app with help http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s3/593647-outlook-com.html

I have it running in conjunction with my hotmail which I did not convert, I just made a separate email. I do have my hotmail linked so I can switch between them from the outlook.com interface, but my hotmail is still running as normal.

I had problems with verification as my account was lock because of the capacha verification problems they were having and the phone verification would not work either. Hopefully that gets sorted out.

I read problems with people who did the convert within hotmail. Support ahs not yet responded to my account locked issue yet.

i probably just got it to reserve my email name.

I tried Outlook (on PC) last night......I didn't see the big difference from current Hotmail (except for a change in look).

I'm wondering if this is really just a re-skin of the CURRENT Hotmail (which is actually pretty good now) just because many people still remember the OLD Hotmail and therefore haven't tried it in awhile. Hotmail has really gotten a lot better over the past couple years.

I used hotmail (Windows Live mail) but I quit using it since you cannot bypass/configure their spam filter (it basically gives me two inboxes to check rather than one and rules don't apply to the junk folder) and if you try, Outlook gives an error.

I use an Exchange 2007 server for my mail and Exchange ActiveSync works flawlessly. You'll have to find specific instructions on what to input for username, domain name, etc. as they don't always match (i.e. domain may be the mail server's FQDN rather than your e-mail address FQDN).
