New Phone Dock

A couple months ago I decided I would make a phone dock for my phone, as I didnt want to buy one because i'm cheap :) I have a highschool class in woodworking and decided I would give it a go, and made my verison of a phone dock, which I think looks great! I have made 3 so far. I may make them to sell if people ask, we will see.

I want your opinion on my design/how it looks. Also, what would you change? As of now, there is no magnet, but in the future I am planning on a way to implement it in the dock too.

Here is the horizontal version that I drew up earlier in Sketchup:

Vertical Version:

Please note: Edges would be rounded over in real life. Also, the middle looks darker, but that is because of the light in my renderer.

Woods that I could use:
Oak
Walnut
Mahogany
Cherry
Ash
Pine
Hard Maple
Birch

Thoughts?

I've seen these on eBay and YouTube, but painted black. My honest opinion? They looks like a dock someone made out of wood because they were too cheap to go out and buy the dock made for their phone. I'd rather go without one myself in that case. I do know there is a market for them though. Best of luck!

It's not bad. If it were me, I'd rather my phone sit down in the dock. I don't have access to fancy tools, plus I live in an apartment, but I'd probably use a dremel with a carving guide so I could make it fit well, probably mount the charging cable so I could drop it in and have it charge. I also typically thing simplicity is key, but some people like more elaborate things, hence the lego docks you'll see on here from time to time.

Or just someone who would rather make something for themselves because they enjoy it. And if you can make a buck from it, why not? I recently built some big wooden cat toys, and I'm going to start building more to try selling on Craigslist. And for this dock, some people might prefer a piece of wood over a piece of plastic on their nightstand.
