Help New Phone - Wifi Problems!

MisterEz

Newbie
Hi - I picked up my new S3 last night, having decided to make the move from an iPhone4... Still waiting for O2 to swap/activate my sim card, so havent used the phone too much so far but am really impressed with the overall look/feel - except for one thing...

I'm having problems with the wifi, in that it keeps dropping out all the time. It connects to my network & then drops out a minute or two later. I haven't had a stable connection for more than 5 minutes!

I've done a search online and found a couple of people with this problem, but they say that it resolved itself once their new sim became active.

Anyone had this happen to them or know if it's a common problem? Hopefully my phone should be fully activated soon - been waiting since around 6:30 last night (how long do O2 take anyway?!) - but in the meantime I'm concerned that I've got a duff phone so don't want to spend too long adding contacts & music etc...

Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi

I got my s3 on Sunday and have had instant problems with it, the wifi also drops off, and it now cannot even find any networks in my area (there are definitely at least 6 within range which it cannot even see, where as yesterday it could see them all and could connect to my home wifi but then kept dropping off.

I took it into Orange and they said they would call me back today....and so my other problem begins - I cannot answer a call on it?? I press the green button a million times and it simply will not connect the call so i can see the person calling and have no way of answering. I even tried lifting it to my face to see if it would do it automatically but no luck?

Fed up with it now.

Has anyone else had these problems?

P.S. - my sim card has been activated and it has made no difference at all - in fact if anything the phone has deteriorated since.

Sorry to hear your having similar problems, mine are still ongoing...

My sim has been active since lunchtime & I'm still having issues. The wifi seemed to settle down while I was at work after O2 activated my sim, but now I'm at home the phone won't stay connected at all.

Going back to Phones4U tomorrow to get it replaced.

Hi all.

Ive been having the same wifi dropouts as you guys, as soon as I received my S3.

Disconnects and reconnects sometimes 3 times a minute. The longest ive had it stable for is about 30 mins. I have tried other routers too and it does the same thing.

I had enough and called Samsung tech bods.

This problem hasnt been reported to them but luckilly the wifi dropped again whilst checking my handset and now they have a log file which hopefully will tell them what this issue is.

I suggest you either contact Samsung (the more people that report it, the better) or take it back to the place of purchase and get a different one...alas i cant do that as i got mine from Ebay.

Ill try and keep you updated as to what Samsung say.

You guys with WiFi problems, have you gone to Settings > WiFi > advanced and making sure the "Keep WiFi on during sleep" option is set to "always" ?

Does the WiFi drop out irrespective of whether the screen is on or off?

Hi matttye.

Yes its set to always on and screen on.

Its also irrespective whether i have a sim card in or not. Just totally random.

I had the same problem as well and I think it also caused my lockscreen to seriously crash and freeze the whole phone. I had to have the phone exchanged

Yep - the phone was set to keep the connection while asleep, but it was dropping out all the time. It was like the wifi was being completely switched off, then it'd come back on 5-10 minutes later for another couple of minutes before going off again...

My phone also started locking up when it was coming out of sleep - I couldn't get past the lock screen & I'd have to pull the battery to reboot. Luckily, it locked up while I was on the way back to the phone shop so I could show them that there was a definate problem - they replaced the phone on the spot, with no argument whatsoever.

The new phone works perfectly; the wifi hasn't dropped out once. It seems generally quicker & slicker too, and the battery doesn't run down half as quickly as the faulty one did.

It would seem that there's a common fault with the phone. Hopefully Samsung can get the problem resolved, and all those affected can get a replacement.

Thanks guys. Im also having the issue of the locking screen when coming out of sleep.
Also just noticed my home button has somehow 'sunk' into the phone. It doesnt feel raised anymore and its difficult to press.

Right - 3 things wrong... going to get a new one from Samsung!
