New Please Help With Root

Ok so I have had my MyTouch 4G for over a year now and love it! My tethering has always worked and I have never been charged any extra as I am on a very old My Favs / Unlimited data plan. I have an Ipad and have jailbroken it and love it... I have been waiting for my update to Android 2.2.2 but it never comes so im still on 2.2.1 I guess my question is what are the reasons I should or shouldnt root this phone? I know jailbreaking my Ipad was the best thing I ever did because of the pluses! I cant find anything that mentions why I should root this phone except for the speed and the user interface. Please let me know if I should or shouldn't! Are there apps that you can install only on rooted phones like there are with the ipad?

I have been rooted now for about a month so i am still pretty new to it. but the biggest advantage i find is the selection of roms. i am using cm 7.1 now and its great on battery life. i have also found there are a few other apps like Titanium Backup that you can use to uninstall any of the bloatware.
