New RAZR HD MAXX

Methos1979

Android Enthusiast
I picked this phone up today from Verizon. Paid full retail ($649) to retain my unlimited data plan. Spent the last 6 hours setting it up. I'm coming from an iPhone 4. I actually 'test drove' a RAZR MAXX back in June for about a week. There were several issues that when combined made me return it to wait for the HD in the hopes that those issues would resolve themselves.

Some of those issues were no 4G at work (although according to the Verizon map we should be getting it), an annoying problem with streaming music 'hiccupping' for want of a better term, general glitchiness causing the need to reboot the phone, and a problem with volume control on my Bose Soundlink bluetooth speaker.

I love my iPhone. I say that being a PC guy that hated everything Mac until I went iPhone. Yes, I do hate iTunes, but doesn't everybody? Anyhow, onto the new phone.

The 4G thing is fixed. We now get 4G here at work. Still not at home but it's coming. And I do more power user stuff here. The annoying hiccupping problem is also resolved - no problems with streaming music at all. This is huge for me as I stream all shift long! The glitchiness is still there - I've had to reboot at least three times. But I've also spent the last five hours solid loading this thing up and trying to make it do everything my iPhone does so I'm going to see how things settle out over the next two weeks with general use.

That just leaves the Bose Soundlink problem. It's still there. Basically there is very little volume control over the speaker with the HD MAXX's volume rocker. It works fine with just the phone speaker or headphones. This seem to be a problem between Bose and Motorola. And it's one I hope they fix.

Other than that the phone is nice. The screen is bigger and nicer than the RAZR MAXX I had. But while bigger it's still not nearly as nice as the iPhone in terms of color and resolution. The colors in the RAZR phones is just a little saturated. You don't really notice it unless you are used to an iPhone or comparing them side to side. The bigger screen is very nice. I love the look of the phone, the kevlar back, gorilla glass front.

I'll keep you posted on how the test drive pans out.

I did the same thing. I figure razr maxx holds its value so I can sell it when something better comes along. I find it much easier to type on this phone than any other I've owned. I'm not crazy about motoblur and have already started to set up go launcher. I find devoting a button to nothing but most recent apps ridiculous. I have an app that allows programming a shortcut for longpress of menu key or home key but I haven't found an app for shortcut from recent apps button. I never use it. Would love to use it as a shortcut to Opera or Dolphin browser. Heck, I wish it were a menu key!
