Help new samsung s4 says 4mins battery life

I brought a new samsung galaxy s4 today, did all the battery reducing stuff but it says the battery is 4ms 5 seconds?? Ive charged it and everything. I switched everything off that i can think of but still it says android systems are using 50% battery. What's happening here? Is it a fault?
 
Well if it has everything switched off then yes, the android system will use 50% of the power. What that tells you is what fraction of the power that is used is being used by what. So for example, if you leave a phone switched on with nothing updating, screen off, and look at it a day later you will find that Android System and Phone Standby between them will have used almost 100% of the power. If you actually used it you would find the screen and various apps using the power instead. So android system using 50% of the power isn't worrying in itself if you are not doing much else with it.

As for the 4 mins battery life, how long has the battery lasted for? I'll bet it's more than 4 minutes :). I don't know what is saying "4 mins 5s", or whether that is a prediction or an measurement of what it's done since it was taken off charge, or what. But I suggest you ignore that and use it for a few days and see how it goes. If it runs down in a couple of hours there is a problem (unless you spend those couple of hours gaming hard with the screen brightness up high, in which case it will only last a few hours regardless). But if you find it lasts all day with your normal use then don't worry - and I suspect that after a couple of days usage whatever that number it will have changed.
 
Try charging it now - note how long it takes to go to full charge, let us know.

BTW - what is the "battery reducing stuff" you mentioned in the first post?
 
Just got a new galaxy s4, on its first charge, i charged to 100%, I got rid of things that drain battery, have no apps and put the screen down to its lowest setting. However it said the battery life was 4 mins. Weirdly as the battery went down, the hours went up so
100% its says 4 mins battery
75% it says 20 mins
50% it says 1.40 etc

Now i'd just ignore this, however, when using the phone, it drains 10% every 8 mins and seeing as its new...that doesn't seem right.
On idle it drains 5% every 40 mins.

Is this faulty or can I fix it, is it just a battery fault. Why would the supposed battery life go up as the battery drains.

Could be a faulty battery or other hardware problem but... What do you mean when you say "I got rid of things that drain the battery"?
