New scam?

But anything that warns people is good.

I spent much of my week this week running around cleaning up after users who inadvertently clicked the wrong thing thinking it was the right thing and educating them on how to tell the difference. Some get it, some don't care and worst of all, some don't believe me.

I recently had an incident with AT&T where their agent asked for my account password over the phone for verification. Um, no ... how do I verify you?

Unfortunately, these are the times we live in.

Yeah, these corporations just don't get that. I had the same a few years ago when I changed banks: the new bank called me that evening with something routine, and asked me to answer some security questions. When I replied that since they had called my number they had a better idea of my identity than I had of theirs, and so really they should be proving their identity to me, and that it would be a dreadful security breach for me to answer those questions to someone who had cold-called me, they just didn't have an answer. I never found out what the call was supposed to be about because I wouldn't answer the questions and, while they could see my reasoning, their scripts didn't give them any solution.
